Coventry City are weighing up a move for veteran left-back Aaron Cresswell as the 35-year-old prepares to bring his long West Ham United career to a close, as reported by SportsBoom.
The defender, capped three times by England, will become a free agent at the end of June and is attracting interest from across the second tier.

Cresswell featured 20 times for the Hammers last season—18 of those appearances coming in the Premier League—yet with no new contract forthcoming, he is ready to take on a new challenge. While the former Ipswich Town man would ideally like to remain in the top flight, his age and wage demands have so far ruled out a move to Everton, where former boss David Moyes is now pursuing younger targets.
Instead, Championship clubs are circling, with Coventry, Bristol City, Millwall, and Queens Park Rangers all understood to be keeping close tabs on developments. For Coventry boss Mark Robins, the prospect of adding such an experienced figure to his backline will be appealing as the club seeks defensive reinforcements ahead of the new campaign.
Cresswell brings with him a wealth of top-level experience. Since arriving at West Ham in 2014 from Ipswich, he has made 369 appearances and played a key role in their 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League triumph. Comfortable going forward as well as defending, the Liverpool-born full-back could offer a short-term solution for Coventry on the left flank, particularly if they look to blend youth with proven pedigree in their summer recruitment.
Despite the free transfer status, finances could prove a sticking point. Cresswell has been on a sizeable salary at West Ham, and although he’s believed to be open to a pay cut in exchange for regular football, any deal will have to be carefully structured.
With the summer transfer window now open, Coventry are yet to make their first major signing, but the pursuit of Cresswell signals intent. A move for the former Hammer would add leadership, experience, and versatility—qualities that could prove invaluable in a gruelling Championship campaign.

Aaron Cresswell would be a clever, low-risk addition for Coventry City. His leadership, delivery from set-pieces, and sheer know-how at the top level would bolster the Sky Blues both on and off the pitch. Coventry need to strike a balance this summer between youthful energy and seasoned heads, and few come more experienced than a man who’s played nearly 400 games for West Ham.
While wages are the obvious obstacle, a carefully negotiated deal with performance incentives could see Cresswell make the CBS Arena his next stop. If Coventry are serious about promotion this season, bringing in a player of his calibre would be a strong statement.
