MK Dons have added pace and experience to their front line with the signing of Rushian Hepburn-Murphy from Crawley Town.
The 26-year-old forward arrives at Stadium MK after a solid campaign in League One, pending EFL and FA clearance.
Former Villa Prodigy Joins Graham Alexander’s Squad
Hepburn-Murphy, who once held the record as Aston Villa’s youngest Premier League debutant of the modern era, has had a varied career that’s taken in domestic and overseas experience. His move to MK Dons is a signal of intent as head coach Graham Alexander looks to reshape his squad ahead of the new League Two season.
The Birmingham-born striker burst onto the scene aged just 16 years and 176 days, coming off the bench for Villa against Sunderland in March 2015. Despite the early breakthrough, regular game time proved elusive, leading to a series of loan spells at Cambridge United, Tranmere Rovers, and Derby County. His time at Tranmere was memorable, most notably a hat-trick against MK Dons in 2019.
After being released by Villa, Hepburn-Murphy moved to Cyprus, joining Pafos in 2020. He showed glimpses of his potential in the Cypriot First Division before injury ruled him out of the entire 2021–22 campaign.

Return to England
His return to England with Swindon Town in 2022 was productive, and a subsequent switch to Crawley Town saw him regain form in the 2024/25 season, scoring 11 goals across 46 appearances. Despite his personal tally, Crawley were relegated from League One, opening the door for his move to Milton Keynes.
In total, Hepburn-Murphy has featured in 154 senior English matches, scoring 30 goals. His late-season form for Crawley—four goals in the final three games—suggests he may be hitting his stride at just the right time.
MK Dons have endured a turbulent few years, slipping from League One to League Two and cycling through managers. But with Alexander now at the helm, recruitment appears more targeted. The addition of Hepburn-Murphy, an agile and direct forward with EFL pedigree, fits into that mould.
The deal was concluded just before the 7pm Wednesday transfer deadline, ensuring the player will join up with the squad for pre-season preparations.
Writer’s View
This looks like a shrewd piece of business by MK Dons. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy may not have fulfilled the lofty expectations of his Villa youth days, but he’s now a seasoned EFL performer with a point to prove. His ability to stretch defences and score in bursts—evident during Crawley’s run-in last season—gives Alexander a versatile attacking option.
With MK Dons keen to mount a promotion push, this signing ticks all the right boxes: affordable, experienced, and hungry. It’s now up to the player to convert promise into consistency at Stadium MK.
