Norwich City Ready To Move On 20-Year-Old Winger

Norwich City have stepped up their summer transfer plans by making an approach for highly-rated Internacional winger Gustavo Prado.

The 20-year-old, who has already made over 50 appearances for the Brazilian club, is attracting growing interest from across Europe, including Portuguese giants FC Porto and Serie A outfit Atalanta.

Brazilian Under 20

Prado, a versatile attacker who has been deployed on both flanks and centrally, has also been a fixture for Brazil at U20 level. Despite a modest goal return—three goals and one assist across his senior outings—he is widely regarded as a talent with significant potential. His senior debut came in February 2024, and he made his Série A bow just two months later, continuing to gain first-team experience in Brazil’s top flight.

His performances have not gone unnoticed. Norwich’s interest in the winger comes amid speculation that first-team stars Josh Sargent and Borja Sainz could depart this summer. With Sainz the subject of ongoing bids from top-flight clubs in Italy and Portugal, the Canaries appear to be lining up a possible successor in Prado.

Continuing the South American Strategy

This move would be far from the first foray into the South American market by Norwich. The club has ramped up its efforts to unearth value in the region, with recent signings Gabriel Sara and Marcelino Núñez arriving directly from Brazil and Chile respectively. It’s a recruitment model that Norwich’s sporting director Ben Knapper has fully endorsed, citing the continent as a “hotbed of talent” and one the club intends to remain deeply invested in.

The approach for Prado continues that trend. While the winger still has three years remaining on his current deal with Internacional, it’s understood that Norwich have formally registered their interest and requested information on the player’s situation. Brazilian side Bahia are also monitoring him, but the Championship side hopes to move swiftly to avoid being outmanoeuvred by wealthier European competitors.

For head coach Liam Manning—appointed after Johannes Hoff Thorup’s exit—this is an opportunity to shape his squad with exciting young talent as he looks to take Norwich back into the Premier League. The former Bristol City manager is expected to oversee an active summer, both in terms of departures and arrivals, as the club continues its reset under new leadership.

Writer’s View

Gustavo Prado fits the Norwich City mould to perfection—young, technically gifted, and brimming with long-term potential. While his raw numbers may not leap off the page, his consistent inclusion in Brazil’s youth ranks and early exposure to top-flight football suggest a player with a high ceiling. Norwich are clearly betting on development over instant impact, a strategy that has both yielded success and invited risk in recent windows.

With strong competition from clubs like Porto and Atalanta, the Canaries will need to act decisively if they are to secure Prado’s signature. But should they pull it off, it could be another savvy addition in a transfer strategy increasingly focused on future rewards.
