Chesterfield are keen to bring back a familiar face after his strong loan spell last season—but face competition from multiple clubs.
Chesterfield Pushing for Pepple Return Amid Transfer Scramble
The Spireites are one of more than ten clubs vying to sign Bim Pepple this summer, following the conclusion of his loan from Luton Town. The 22-year-old striker enjoyed a productive stint at the SMH Group Stadium, netting five times in 15 starts and impressing with his all-round displays as Paul Cook’s side reached the play-offs.
Pepple’s season began with Southend United in the National League, where he scored 11 goals in 23 games—form that prompted Luton to send him up a tier to League Two. His consistent output across both spells has drawn widespread attention, with Chesterfield understood to have already held talks over a return.
Despite being under contract at Luton, who were relegated to League One at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, the Hatters are reportedly willing to sanction a move. Their managerial situation remains in flux, but Pepple is expected to be available as they reshape their squad. Chesterfield believe the striker fits their summer recruitment blueprint of “young, hungry and aggressive” players capable of taking the club forward.

Pepple Loves Chesterfield
The forward has openly expressed his fondness for the Spireites, adding fuel to fan hopes of a reunion. In a recent interview, he reflected positively on his time in Derbyshire:
“The gaffer was brilliant and the whole staff were brilliant with me. Their man-management of me was really good. I had Will Grigg and Paddy Madden to learn off and they were excellent… I loved my time there. The fans were really good, they got behind the team. It is a great club. I only have good things to say about everyone at the club. Everyone in the club made me feel super welcome.”
That fondness, however, will be tested by Pepple’s ambition. The Canadian-born striker has eyes on international honours, specifically a place in Canada’s 2026 World Cup squad. To achieve that, he is expected to seek the highest possible level of football—making the current race for his signature a fiercely competitive one.
While Chesterfield are very much in the running, they are by no means alone. Pepple is taking his time with the decision, keen to get it right ahead of pre-season.
Writer’s View
Bim Pepple’s impact at Chesterfield was both immediate and memorable, and it’s no surprise the club are pushing hard for his return. The attacker ticks every box for a side looking to build on last season’s play-off campaign—but his sights are understandably set higher given his World Cup ambitions. For Paul Cook, securing Pepple would be a major coup and a clear statement of intent.
However, the sheer number of interested clubs suggests that patience and persistence will be key if the Spireites are to win this particular transfer race.
