Championship Clubs Target Leyton Orient Standout

Leyton Orient could lose yet another key player from last season’s squad as Championship sides circle.

Richie Wellens’ side suffered Wembley heartbreak at the hands of London rivals Charlton Athletic, and as a result, many of their stars have been linked with moves away from Brisbane Road. Charlie Kelman is widely expected to stay at Queens Park Rangers following his successful loan move, and even manager Wellens has become a possible candidate in Cardiff City’s job search.

Galbraith Targeted By Pair

According to reports from Football Insider, Ethan Galbraith could be the next name to depart Orient this window, with Championship pair Sheffield United and Swansea City interested in the Northern Ireland international. The former Salford City player recorded 51 appearances this term for his club, and provided 14 goals and assists.

Swansea City’s interest in him is long documented, with a reported £1 million bid rejected in the January transfer window. The Swans have been the most active side in terms of transfers so far this window, already confirming three new faces in South Wales this summer, most recently with Bolton Wanderers‘ Ricardo Santos Almedia.

Chris Wilder’s men faced their own playoff woes this May, at the hands of Sunderland, keeping The Blades in the Championship for a second season. Whilst Chris Wilder’s future remains in the air, the club are still moving forward with transfer plans amid a link to striker Emil Riis.

Writers’ View

Ethan Galbraith was one of the creative lights in a brilliant season for Leyton Orient, even if they fell at the final hurdle. His versatility is a great asset too, with regular appearances across the midfield and at right back. He deserves a step-up to the Championship this summer, but which club he moves to could be a tricky decision. Swansea City certainly have the potential as seen under Alan Sheehan in the final weeks of the season, with new investment arriving recently too. But Sheffield United’s status as a promotion contender and their allure of potential Premier League football could sway the choice.
