Reading midfielder Charlie Savage has no intention of leaving the club this summer despite a raft of interest from the Championship, according toΒ The Reading Chronicle.
The 22-year-old has been a huge hit at the Select Car Leasing Stadium since joining from Manchester United in 2023. Having shown promise in his debut campaign in League One, this season has seen him emerge as one of the hottest talents in the division.
Although the Royals missed out on a place in the play-offs on the final day, Savage earned the plaudits. He finished the season with an impressive seven goals and 13 assists in all competitions.
Championship Interest Emerges
Savage has been linked with a move away from Berkshire for several months now. News emerged earlier this week that Championship trio Wrexham, Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and Portsmouth are all keen on the Welsh international.
Fresh reports have now revealed that there is indeed interest from the second tier, with Blackburn and Portsmouth showing ‘the most intent’ to date.

Despite that, Savage is said to be happy with life at the club and is in no rush to move on. He still has two years remaining on his current contract, putting Reading in a commanding position. However, a large chunk of any fee received would be due to Manchester United.
The Welsh international was reluctantly allowed to leave Old Trafford having emerged from the club’s academy. As part of the deal, a 50% sell-on clause was negotiated. As such, his current employers will demand a hefty fee in order to tempt them into losing one of their star players.
Writer’s View
Charlie Savage has to be commended for his attitude to life at Reading. The Royals hasn’t been an easy club to be at in recent times, but with new owners on the horizon, things are expected to improve beyond recognition. Despite that, many players would be eager to further their careers as soon as the chance became available, especially with clubs like Blackburn and Birmingham, with his dad, Robbie, representing the pair during his playing days. Reading’s promotion aspirations for next season will be severely strengthened if they can keep hold of their star midfielder.
