Swansea City Make Improved Offer For Key Transfer Target

Swansea City have made an improved offer of over £1 million plus add-ons for Lincoln City midfielder Ethan Erhahon, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Swans have a long-standing interest in the 24-year-old, who is widely expected to depart the LNER Stadium this summer. He is a player that has a number of admirers in the Championship, and Swansea were the first to arrive at the table last month when it was claimed that they had launched an initial bid of £600,000.

That offer was dismissed outright by the Imps, who have long stated that they wouldn’t consider anything less than £1 million for their prized asset. Following the rejection, Wales Online journalist Tom Coleman reported that the Welsh-based outfit were unlikely to return to the table with an improved offer, although the club appear to have had a change of heart.

Other clubs who have been linked with the former St Mirren man in the past include Burnley, West Bromwich Albion, Hull City, Norwich City and Blackburn Rovers.

Lincoln Chief Expecting Offers

Speaking earlier this week, Lincoln director of football Jez George admitted he would be surprised if there wasn’t a host of Championship clubs knocking at his door this summer:

“If I was a Championship director of football or a Championship head of recruitment, Ethan would absolutely be top of my list.

“Has he been quite as impressive last season as he was the year before? No. But the year before he was absolutely outstanding and I cannot believe that this time last year we didn’t have people absolutely banging our door down to sign Ethan.

“For clubs not to do that, I can’t understand what they look for. He has all the attributes, and form is temporary as the saying goes.

“I look at him and think, for his age, his athletic capabilities, his technical detail and all his strengths and his ceiling and what he is capable of being, I’d be banging Lincoln City’s door down. But I’m not, I’m here and my job is to make sure we only open that door to a club who comes with the right valuation.”

Writer’s View

Ethan Erhahon is a player who looks a cut above in League One. Lincoln have been very lucky to keep hold of him for as long as they have, but it does appear as if his 107th appearance for the club against Wrexham on the final day of the season will be his last. It will be interesting to see if Swansea’s offer sparks a bidding war from other interested parties from within the Championship.
