Cobblers Star Set To Part Ways With The Club

It’s fair to say that Northampton Town endured a fairly difficult second season back in League One, with Jon Brady leaving the club and a very tough season on the pitch, finishing just two places above the relegation zone.

With former West Ham midfielder Kevin Nolan at the helm now managing to just about steady the ship at the end of the season, the club would  have been hoping for a change in fortunes on the pitch next season.

However, it looks like they will have to make do without one of their star players. As reported by The Northampton Chronicle on Friday afternoon, midfielder Mitch Pinnock will be parting ways with the club when his deal expires later the month.

What He Leaves Behind

No doubt a fans favourite, Pinnock made 200 appearances for Northampton Town in four years at the club, also registering 25 goals in that time. His best season stats-wise coming in his debut season for the club in the 2021/22 season, scoring nine goals and assisting thirteen.

Well known for his mammoth long throw and wand of a left foot, Pinnock leaves the club as one of the key players who helped the side gain automatic promotion from League Two back to League One in 2023, with six goals and seven assists.

And the former Kilmarnock and AFC Wimbledon man still had a key part to play in the season just gone as well, playing in all 46 league matches for The Cobblers, starting an impressive 45 of them, contributing in forward areas with two goals and seven assists, despite being used as a left wing-back under Nolan pretty frequently. So undoubtedly he will be a huge miss to the club going forward after his impactful service.

Mitch Pinnock will definitely be a huge miss for The Cobblers going forward, a really bright spark down the left-hand side and a very creative player, a leader who is also a threat from set pieces and has a very good footballing brain.

You’d imagine he will be looking for a move to a bigger League One club now potentially that can suit his playing style, with Northampton not expected to reach the top half of the table, and at thirty years of age, he will be thinking this could be his last step to take towards trying to play at a higher level.
