Peterborough United have announced the signing of Braintree Town’s Kyrell Lisbie on a long-term contract, as reported by The Daily Gazette.
Lisbie scored 13 National League goals last season and 17 in all competitions.
Striker Excited By League One Move
Following an impressive season with The Iron, who activated a one-year extension in Lisbie’s contract before the deal was completed, the striker is excited to represent Peterborough.
“I can’t wait to get started. I am really excited to represent this great club and the supporters.”
The Posh have a track record of signing young players or those from the lower leagues and giving them a chance to perform and Lisbie is determined to take his opportunity.
“Everybody knows how Peterborough United operate in terms of bringing young players to the club and giving them the opportunity to perform, it is down to me to take that opportunity.”
He may have spent just a season in the National League following his move from Cray Valley Paper Mills but the 21-year-old believes he’s ready for the next step.
“I feel that this is the right time to make the move, I enjoyed my time at Braintree, but the chance to play in the EFL is something that really excites me.”

Posh Get Their Man
It was a disappointing season in League One for Peterborough United, finishing a lowly 18th, which was slightly softened by the EFL Trophy victory at Wembley.
Manager Darren Ferguson wasted no time in planning for the new campaign and Lisbie is a player Peterborough have had their eye on for some time.
“Kyrell is a player that we have kept an eye on for the last few months.”
“We have had some very impressive reports on him as well and we are pleased to get the deal done.”
Despite their poor season, The Posh scored 68 league goals which is the seventh-highest in the division and Ferguson is excited to be adding more firepower to his side.
“He can play in different positions along the front line so that gives us good flexibility and I am looking forward to working with him.”
Writer’s View
Peterborough have an excellent track record of developing young players so a transfer like this is no surprise.
It didn’t quite work last season for another prolific National League goal-getter in the shape of Chris Conn-Clarke so Ferguson will be hoping Lisbie hits the ground running and helps get the club back to where they feel they should be.
