League One outfit Huddersfield Town have completed the signing of former Preston North End player Ryan Ledson on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Terriers, which will keep him at the club until 2028.
After confirming the appointment of new manager Lee Grant yesterday, the club have now completed their first summer signing, bringing in Ledson, who was wanted by many Championship, League One and Scottish Premiership sides.
After being relegated from the Championship two seasons ago, Huddersfield are looking to get back to the second tier, and signing Ledson is certainly a big stepping stone in the right direction.
Ryan Ledson’s Career to Date
The 27-year-old came through the academy at Premier League side Everton, and spent some time on loan at Cambridge United, before joining then League One side Oxford United permanently in 2016. Two years, 80 appearances and nine goal contributions later, he moved North to Lancashire to join Championship side Preston.
Ledson has since made over 200 appearances for North End, 32 of which came last season, before the club decided to let him go after seven years of service. Huddersfield is now his confirmed destination of choice in his new chapter.
Full of Praise For the Project
Speaking on the Huddersfield Town official website, Ledson was full of praise for the ambition the club has.
“I’m delighted to have this move completed so early in the summer, and I couldn’t be happier to become a Huddersfield Town player.
“It’s a really exciting summer and season ahead for the Club, and having spoken to Lee Grant about his ideas and ambition for the team, that was a journey I jumped at the opportunity to become a part of.
“I’ve played against Town many times in my career and know how brilliant the supporters are both home and away, and I can promise that they’ll be getting my all each and every time I’m selected to represent the Club.”
Writer’s View
Considering the number of clubs that were interested in signing the 27-year-old, the fact that the Terriers have sorted both their managerial situation and secured their first signing so early before the first window even opens does send a message to the rest of the league.
Ledson’s quality is showcased by the fact that so many clubs wanted to sign him, with the deal making perfect sense for both parties. Huddersfield have signed a player with real quality in the middle of the park, whilst Ledson has the opportunity to rebound his career after a season where he wasn’t the first name on the team sheet in the Championship.
