Former Luton Town manager Rob Edwards is keen on the role at Bristol City should Liam Manning depart for Norwich City, according to journalist Ross Arnott.
The 42-year-old has been out of work since January after leaving Kenilworth Road. He departed the Hatters in the midst of a second success relegation battle, although his time at the club will be remembered fondly.
Edwards had guided Luton to the top tier for the first time in the Premier League era. Although they instantly dropped back to the Championship, the Bedfordshire-based side were widely praised for their free-flowing attacking football against some of Europe’s biggest teams.
He has since been linked with a number of roles across the Championship and League One.
Edwards Sets Sights On Ashton Gate
Bristol City appear as if they will be on the hunt for a new head coach in the near future. It is claimed that Liam Manning is closing in on a move to Norwich City as Johannes Hoff Thorup’s permanent replacement.
The 39-year-old has become one of the most highly regarded young coaches in the EFL, having performed wonders at both Oxford United and the Robins. He has just come off the back of an excellent campaign, where he guided City into the play-offs.
Journalist Arnott claims that his current employers expect Manning to move on over the course of the next week in what will be an ‘amicable’ departure. Furthermore, Edwards would be interested in the vacancy when and if it arises.
⚽️ I understand deal for Liam Manning is all but done. Club have told me they expect Norwich move and wish him well. All very amicable but city can’t comment until it’s confirmed.

Writer’s View
Although Rob Edwards has endured a difficult last 12 months, his reputation remains in tact thanks to the miracle he performed by guiding Luton into the Premier League. The Hatters may well be playing in League One next season but it appears as if their former boss has set his sights on a return to the Championship. Bristol City will be disappointed to lose a head coach of the calibre of Liam Manning but Edwards would be an ample replacement. However, it is a job that is sure to be of interest to a number of unemployed managers.
