Norwich City Weighing Up Swoop For Former Carrow Road Prospect

Norwich City are weighing up a summer swoop for Nottingham Forest left-back Harry Toffolo as they prepare for a rebuild ahead of the 2025–26 Championship campaign, as reported by Football League World.

The 29-year-old could return to Carrow Road on a free transfer with his contract set to expire.

Canaries Eye Familiar Face in Harry Toffolo

The Canaries are exploring the possibility of re-signing former academy graduate Toffolo, with sources indicating the out-of-contract Nottingham Forest defender is being considered as a replacement for Callum Doyle.

Doyle’s return to Manchester City following a season-long loan has left a vacancy at left-back, and despite currently being without a permanent manager, the Canaries are moving swiftly in the market to identify targets. Toffolo, who has played over 100 Championship games, fits the bill as an experienced, affordable option.

Having joined Norwich at under-14 level, Toffolo progressed through the ranks and turned professional, though he made just three senior appearances before leaving the club in 2018. Since then, he has enjoyed spells at Lincoln City, and Huddersfield Town, carving out a reputation as a dependable second-tier full-back.

His most successful spell came at Huddersfield, where he featured prominently during their 2021–22 campaign that ended in a play-off final defeat to Forest—the very club he joined shortly after. Toffolo initially saw regular game time in the Premier League under Steve Cooper, but his fortunes have declined in recent seasons.

One Premier League Start

This term, under Nuno Espirito Santo, Toffolo has started only once in the Premier League—his appearance in a 2–1 win over Tottenham in late April marking his first league start of the campaign. With Forest now chasing European football, he appears surplus to requirements.

Norwich face competition from fellow Championship side Coventry City, who are also monitoring Toffolo’s situation. Frank Lampard’s side narrowly missed out on promotion this season and are looking to strengthen defensively, despite already having Jake Bidwell and Jay Dasilva on long-term deals.

However, Norwich’s emotional link with Toffolo, coupled with the opportunity to play regularly in a familiar environment, could prove persuasive. The player turns 30 in August and is understood to be keen on first-team football at this stage of his career.

Writer’s View

This would be a smart, low-risk signing for Norwich. The club’s left-back situation needs urgent attention following Doyle’s exit, and Toffolo’s availability on a free makes him a logical candidate. He knows the Championship inside out and, crucially, he knows Norwich too.

While the Canaries are yet to appoint a permanent manager, the proactive move for Toffolo shows they aren’t standing still this summer. Reuniting with a former academy product who’s now a seasoned professional could be just the kind of shrewd business needed to re-energise the squad and push for a top-six finish.
