Valencia manager Carlos Corberán is considering a summer swoop for Sheffield Wednesday forward Josh Windass, according to reports in Spain.
The 31-year-old attacker is believed to be on Corberán’s radar as the former West Bromwich Albion boss looks to bring in proven attacking talent from the EFL. Corberán, who managed the Baggies and Huddersfield Town before joining Valencia in December, is said to have previously considered signing Windass during his time at The Hawthorns.
That interest appears to have been revived, with El Desmarque relaying reports from Spanish journalist Ángel García that the La Liga club could now move to sign the Englishman in the upcoming transfer window.
Josh Windass
Windass, who initially joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan in January 2020 before making the move permanent later that year, recently signed a new contract to keep him at Hillsborough until 2026. He was a key figure during the 2024–25 season, scoring 13 goals and providing six assists across 47 appearances in all competitions.
Windass has spent his entire professional career in the UK, having also played for Rangers, Accrington Stanley and Wigan Athletic. A move to Spain would represent the first overseas opportunity of his career and a significant change for a player long associated with the English lower leagues.
Corberán is expected to oversee a rebuild at Valencia this summer after a challenging season in La Liga. The club are believed to be assessing a number of targets from the Championship as part of their strategy to blend experience with value.
Despite committing his future to the Owls, there is no clear indication whether Windass or the club would entertain a transfer at this stage. There’s also the manager situation to be resolved, with uncertainty still settling in around Hillsborough.

Writer’s View
This move, if it materialises, would represent a bold but calculated gamble by both Carlos Corberán and Josh Windass. The forward’s productivity in a struggling Sheffield Wednesday side highlights his value, and Corberán’s previous familiarity with him from the Championship could be key.
However, with Windass recently signing a new deal at Hillsborough, Valencia would likely need to present a compelling offer to tempt the Owls. Still, at 31, this may be Windass’ final chance for a major move abroad—and under a manager who clearly rates him, it could prove the right opportunity at the right time.
