Blackburn Rovers Seal Agreement With 21-Year-Old

Blackburn Rovers have tied down promising goalkeeper Jack Barrett to a new contract as the club continues to build squad depth ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old has committed his future to Ewood Park until 2027, with an option to extend for a further year.

Young Stopper Extends Stay at Ewood Park

Barrett, who arrived at Rovers last summer after leaving Everton, has been rewarded for a solid debut campaign with a two-year extension. The new deal follows a 12-month stint in which he featured prominently for the Under-21s and spent the latter part of the season on loan at Workington AFC.

He made 19 appearances under Mike Sheron before heading to the Northern Premier League Premier Division, where he impressed across eight starts for Workington.

With Joe Hilton sold in January and Jordan Eastham out of contract this summer, Barrett’s retention ensures the club maintains a healthy number of goalkeeping options. He is expected to continue playing a key role at development level while providing additional support to the senior setup.

Squad Planning in Full Swing

Barrett will be part of a four-strong group of goalkeepers available to manager John Eustace. The move also provides Rovers with flexibility, particularly if they decide to loan out highly rated youngster Nick Michalski to gain senior experience elsewhere.

Speaking after signing his new deal, Barrett expressed his enthusiasm for the next chapter of his Rovers journey.

“I’ve really enjoyed my time here so far and I love working with all the lads and the staff. I feel like I’m improving all the time and I’m thankful to the club for keeping me here for another two years. I’m looking forward to kicking on and being around the first team even more.”

Writer’s View

This is a sensible and low-risk decision by Blackburn Rovers. With Barrett already integrated into the club’s system and showing steady progress, the extension gives them both continuity and cover. It’s also a pragmatic move amid wider restructuring in the goalkeeping department. If Michalski does go out on loan, Barrett’s presence provides reassurance and depth in a position that demands consistency and readiness.
