Former Blackpool & Lincoln City Man Released By Relegated Side

Tyreece John-Jules will depart Crawley Town this summer following the expiry of his short-term deal.

The former Arsenal striker has struggled to establish himself at club level following a series of injuries and loan spells across the EFL.

John-Jules, 23, joined Crawley Town in October 2024 on a deal running until the end of the season. His departure, confirmed as part of the club’s retained and released list, ends yet another chapter in what has been a stop-start senior career.

Crawley Move Follows Series of Frustrating Loan Spells

A product of Arsenal’s academy, John-Jules signed professional terms in 2018 and was regarded as one of the club’s brightest young forwards. He impressed during a pre-season tour under then-manager Unai Emery and continued to develop under the guidance of Freddie Ljungberg.

In 2020, Mikel Arteta sanctioned a loan move to Lincoln City where he scored on his second appearance, but a season-ending injury curtailed his momentum. Subsequent loan spells followed at Doncaster Rovers, Blackpool, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town and Derby County, with flashes of ability regularly overshadowed by injury setbacks.

At Derby, he made a brief impact by scoring on his return from injury in a 1–0 win over Port Vale, but he was again sidelined just weeks later with a serious hamstring injury requiring surgery. He returned to training late in the season but did not feature again, ultimately making just 12 appearances as the Rams secured promotion to the Championship.

Following the end of the 2023–24 campaign, Arsenal opted not to renew his contract, ending his long association with the club.

Questions Over Future As Injuries Continue To Haunt

John-Jules arrived at Crawley in League One hoping to relaunch his career, but once again found opportunities limited. His exit comes as part of a broader shake-up following the club’s relegation, with the Reds now preparing for a return to League Two.

While his technical talent and pedigree are undoubted, clubs may be cautious due to his injury record. The striker will become a free agent in June, with his next move likely to be a decisive one for his career trajectory.

Writer’s View

Tyreece John-Jules’ journey so far is a classic case of potential hampered by persistent setbacks. Every loan spell seemed to begin with promise before injury struck, robbing him of the consistency he so badly needed. His time at Derby showed glimpses of what he can do, but it’s telling that a player once tipped for the Arsenal first team now finds himself without a club at just 24.

There’s still time for a revival — the ability is clearly there — but any interested side will have to weigh the risk against the reward. A full pre-season and clean bill of health could be all it takes to finally unlock his promise, but for now, John-Jules remains one of the EFL’s great “what could have been” stories.
