Our Three Predictions For Leyton Orient vs Stockport County

        • Prediction 1 – Charlie Kelman To Score – 11/5
        • Prediction 2 –  Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 7/5
        • Prediction 3 – Match To End In A Draw – 5/2

First Prediction For Leyton Orient vs Stockport County – Charlie Kelman To Score -11/5

The American has been the standout player for Leyton Orient in his second stint in East London, with 25 goals across 58 appearances. He is in electric form, with 11 goal contributions in his last 10 matches, three of which ended with Kelman scoring braces. He has very strong momentum behind him and with Richie Wellens opting to give him a rest for the final 15 minutes of their last day game against Huddersfield Town, he should be ready to play the full match in this fixture. It wasn’t Kelman who was the star man against The Terriers, with Dan Ageyi scoring two of the four goals on the day. With the pair of them and Jamie Donley as the front line, The O’s should score and it is the 23-year-old who is best placed to find the net in this game.

Second Prediction For Leyton Orient vs Stockport County – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 7/5

These two sides were only outscored by Birmingham City across the League One regular season so there are plenty of goals to be found in the respective squads. As detailed previously, Orient’s front three have been outstanding, with 59 goal contributions between them in the third tier alone. But County’s choices are not to be discredited compared to that. Whilst they did lose Louie Barry in January, Challinor’s side do have plenty of danger men, with Kyle Wootton, Isaac Olaofe and Will Collar all in double digits for goals and assists this campaign. Dave Challinor’s side scored 12 goals across their last five games, only beaten by two other sides in the top half; Barnsley, and their opponents in Orient.

Third Prediction For Leyton Orient vs Stockport County – Match To End In A Draw – 7/4

Whilst recent form is helpful to consider, this is a playoff semi-final match. A first leg is usually a tentative affair where neither side want to be too risky or find themselves immediately on the backfoot. These two teams are second and third in the form table prior to the end of the season, and this is arguably the closest of the semi-final matchups across the EFL to call. Goals could and probably should come, but there is not enough to seperate these teams with a second leg coming shortly after for all the marbles, it is not worth the cost of going too aggressive in this one. As the old addage goes, ‘if you can’t win it, don’t lose it.’

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head

Leyton Orient secured their playoff spot on the final day with a crucial win against a hapless Huddersfield Town, blowing them away 4-1 in West Yorkshire. It came in conjunction with Reading‘s loss to Barnsley, with The Royals needing to better Orient’s result. They are unbeaten in their last seven games, with the last six all being wins, and only their win over Wycombe ending with a clean sheet. It has been a remarkable bounce back for Richie Wellens’ side, with Orient’s playoff hopes severely dented by a five game losing streak at the start of March.

Stockport County ended the season in third place, with a fine run of form seeing them leap Wycombe Wanderers. They put the final nail in the coffin for the Chairboys on the final day, coming from 1-0 behind to convincingly win thanks to three unresponded goals. They ended third in the recent form table, only behind Champions Birmingham City and Leyton Orient. They only dropped points in their last five came in a draw against Peterborough United, and have beaten Lincoln City, Rotherham United, Huddersfield Town and Wycombe. Their last thirteen points gained all came from losing positions, perhaps most impressively of all in their last game against Lincoln City in their last match, coming from two goals behind to win at Edgeley Park.

With these two sides being seperated by multiple divisions for much of recent history, they have only played four times since 2022. Both have shared two wins apiece out of four games. The home team has not won any match, and County kept clean sheets both times at Brisbane Road. It was a 1-0 win for The Hatters in their most recent match at the start of February, whilst Orient won 4-1 at Edgeley Park in September. The second leg will be played on May 14.
