Peterborough United will be looking to move striker Bradley Ihionvien on in the summer, with manager Darren Ferguson also unsure about other players’ futures at the club, according to BBC Sport.
The 21-year-old joined The Posh from League Two outfit Colchester United last August for a reported undisclosed six-figure fee on a three-year deal.
However, he has only made 15 appearances in all competitions, 11 of which have come in League One, with his two goals both coming in the EFL Trophy.
With Ihionvien out of favour, Ferguson chose to include 16-year-old Bolo Shofowoke on the bench in the 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers, who made his debut in the 89th minute.
Kwame Poku, Hector Kyprianou and Ricky Jade-Jones are the other three players linked with moves away, all three of whom have made more of an impact this season than the young English striker.
Ferguson Talks About Players’ Futures
Talking to BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, the Scotman admitted that Ihiovien’s future at the club was hanging in the balance.
“Bradley’s not part of the future. I’ve got to make decisions, and that’s one I’ve made. Sometimes moves don’t come off.”
Ihionvien isn’t the only player linked with a move away, with Poku, Kyprianou and Jade-Jones all linked with moves away from the Weston Holmes Stadium.
“There’ll be loads of clubs in for Poku, I would expect, Hector and Ricky the same. them. It just emphasises what we do at this club.
“Since we played the play-off against Oxford, we’ve now got two players left. It just shows what we’re about and we’ve got to find a way of replacing them.
“Whether we see all three (again this season), I don’t know but they are still members of the squad. I’ve got to be careful with Ricky and Kwame, we don’t want them getting injuries. I’ve got to be sensible.”
Writer’s View
It seems like another transfer of more of the same for Posh, where they lose their better players and bring in new young players as replacements. However, that doesn’t seem to include young striker Ihionvien, who looks set to be moved on, rather than sold on for profit.
With this season being a dud for Peterborough after the previous season’s play-off campaign, better recruitment is needed to bounce back after the strange and off-taste 2024/25 campaign. Especially if they are set to lose the likes of Poku, Jade-Jones and Kyprianou.
