‘Not Learned’ – Hull City Fans React As Details Emerge In Manager Situation

Hull City could make yet another managerial change this summer, with Championship veteran Tony Mowbray reportedly under consideration if Ruben Selles is relieved of his duties.

BBC Humberside Sport’s Mike White reported on X that a change in the dugout is “most likely” as the Tigers assess their options following a narrow escape from relegation. Mowbray, recently dismissed by West Bromwich Albion, is understood to be one of the names in the frame.

Selles’ future in the balance after survival on final day

The seemingly ludicrous decision wouldn’t be unlike Hull, who fired Leroy Rosenior after he took them to the brink of the play-offs.

Selles took over at Hull in December 2024 following the sacking of Tim Walter, and led the side to safety by the slimmest of margins. A 1-1 draw at Portsmouth on the final day ensured survival on goal difference, with the club finishing level on 49 points with Luton Town.

During his 28-game tenure, the 41-year-old Spaniard recorded nine wins and notable away successes at the likes of Sheffield United, Sunderland, Millwall and Blackburn. However, his side’s poor home form left them teetering on the edge of relegation.

“It has been a really difficult season,” Selles told the club website. “From the first moment we arrived, our target has always been to keep the team in the division, to build a good platform for next season. We didn’t want to do it on the last day. We hoped we could do it before.”

Stability needed

Selles, who earned rave reviews while in the hot seat at Reading, kept the Tigers up, and it’s fair to say some of the feedback on social media has been angry at the possible removal of the head coach. Below are some of the best responses, which seem to fear that all is not stable behind the scenes at the MKM Stadium.
