Leeds United Make Managerial Decision

Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe has confirmed that Daniel Farke will remain in charge next season following rumours that he could be replaced this summer.

The Whites clinched the Championship title yesterday in dramatic circumstances. They entered the day level on points with second-placed Burnley knowing that they would be crowned champions should the match the result from their division rivals.

Scott Parker’s team appeared to be on course to take the honours with a 3-1 win over Millwall. However, Leeds left it late to turn things around at Plymouth Argyle, with an added time winner from Manor Solomon securing a 2-1 victory at Home Park. The results meant that both teams hit the magic 100 points milestone.

Farke Rumours Quashed

Yesterday’s triumph marked the third time in which Farke has won the Championship, having twice won the division during his stint at Norwich City. Promotion at Elland Road was confirmed last month when Burnley beat nearest challengers Sheffield United, but rumours of an imminent exit surfaced only hours later.

The Daily Mail claimed that club owners, 49ers Enterprises, were concerned about the German’s record in the top tier. He was relegated with the Canaries in 2020 and was sacked just months into the 2021/22 season when it appeared as if lightning was about to strike twice.

It was stated that potential replacements were being explored, although they wouldn’t be rushed into a decision if they were unable to find the ideal candidate to guarantee Premier League safety.

Those rumours have now been put to bed, with chairman Paraag Marathe confirming Farke will remain at Elland Road next season. Speaking to BBC West Yorkshirehe said:

“I have ended the speculation. He is my man.”

Writer’s View

This is absolutely the right decision. Daniel Farke thoroughly deserves the opportunity to take Leeds into the Premier League, especially off the back of a 100 point season. It would have been unfair to dismiss him based on his time at another club years ago. That said, it’s unlikely that it was ever on the agenda anyway and the original rumour was just paper talk. The fact the chairman has had to come out and defend his manager hours after clinching the Championship title is ludicrous.
