Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:
Shrewsbury Town welcome Crawley Town on the back of beating Barnsley last Saturday, their first win in 16 League One outings.
John Marquis netted his tenth and eleventh goals of the campaign to give Salop just their eighth victory of the season and third on the road.
Prior to their visit to South Yorkshire, fans of Shrewsbury had waited over two months for a taste of victory. Their last success had come away from home at Rotherham United with John Marquis again on the score sheet, netting the winner.
Shrewsbury have the worst home record in League One having won just five of their 22 matches at The Croud Meadow. Just 18 points have been earned on home turf with 14 defeats suffered and just 19 goals scored.
Salop have scored just 40 goals this season from their 45 matches so far at an average of less than 0.9 goals per games with top scorer John Marquis scoring 11 of those goals. George Lloyd is someway behind Marquis on five strikes and has added three assists, two behind the leading creator Mal Benning who has five.
Only Peterborough United and Crawley Town have conceded more goals than Shrewsbury this season as the Shropshire side have picked the ball out of their net on 77 occasions, an average of 1.7 goals conceded per match. Salop have kept just four clean sheets this term, the least in the division.
Crawley Town are unbeaten in three and have taken seven points in that run but it was too little too late in terms of League One survival as the Red Devils will be once again playing League Two football next season. Crawley have actually won four of the eight games Scott Lindsey has taken charge of since returning to the club.
Last weekend, Town ran out 3-0 winners over Northampton Town at Broadfield Stadium. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy scored his ninth goal of the season to open the scoring just before half time and goals from Jeremy Kelly and Kamari Doyle secured the points.
Easter Monday also produced a positive as another Hepburn-Murphy strike and a brace from Panutche Camara saw of Exeter City and a solid defensive performance at St. Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park against runaway champions Birmingham City saw Lindsey’s side claim a point thanks to a 0-0 draw.
Crawley’s away record is only better than those of Bristol Rovers and their opponents Shrewsbury and the Red Devils have managed just 16 points from their 22 fixtures on the road, winning just four times away from Broadfield Stadium and conceding 47 times.
Scott Lindsey’s side have scored 55 times this season at an average of 1.2 per game with top scorer Rushian Hepburn-Murphy leading the charts on nine, ahead of Junior Quitirna who has eight. Hepburn-Murphy and on-loan Southampton man Kamari Doyle share the lead at the top of the assists table with four apiece, ahead of Panutche Camara on three.
Crawley have the worst defence in the league, conceding on 82 occasions at an average of over 1.8 goals per game but have kept 10 clean sheets.
This season’s previous meeting produced an eight goal thriller at Broadfield Stadium as Shrewsbury edged out their hosts by five goals to three.
A man of the match display from John Marquis, who helped himself to two goals, ensured Salop left West Sussex with all three points.
Crawley had led 2-1 before Aristote Nsiala equalised, Marquis grabbed his second and George Lloyd got his name on the score sheet twice.
There had been over a decade between meetings, with the last meetings coming during the 2013-14 campaign.
Both fixtures that season ended 1-1 and the season would end in similar circumstance to the current campaign as both teams were relegated to League Two.
The previous seven meetings between these two have produced one draw and three wins apiece.
