Burnley Approach Side For Potential James Trafford Successor

Burnley have been linked with a European goalkeeper as The Clarets search for a potential replacement for James Trafford.

The England senior international, who was named in the EFL Championship’s Team of the Season, has been continually linked with a move away from Turf Moor this season, with EFL Cup winners Newcastle United a potential destination. Reports back in February said that Eddie Howe’s side were ‘confident’ in getting a move for the former Bolton Wanderers stopper over the line.

Burnley Use Kompany Links

According to German football journalist Florian Plettenberg, Burnley have made contact with Bayern Munich, managed by former boss Vincent Kompany, to enquire about the services of their reserve keeper Daniel Peretz.

The 24-year-old Israeli goalkeeper is yet to play for the Bundesliga champions-elect this season, with Manuel Neuer, Sven Ulreich and 21-year-old Jonas Urbig all ahead of him in the pecking order. It is expected that Peretz will depart Bavaria over the summer, either on loan or on a permanent move with a buyback clause.

However, Burnley will face competition from within Germany to sign their target as Hamburger SV, who are in a battle for promotion in the 2. Bundesliga have also entered the fray. Plettenburg’s report suggests that it is HSV who are the best placed side to secure Peretz.

Daniel Peretz, whilst having struggled for game time at Bayern Munich, is a good choice to replace James Trafford if he is to leave this summer. A keeper with European experience with Maccabi Tel Aviv, Peretz has quickly become the first choice for Israel in their national team. His lack of playing time in one of Europe’s elite leagues will be a concern for a Clarets side stepping up into the Premier League, but Scott Parker’s side must have seen something they like. It also allows the Lancashire side to exploit their connections with Vincent Kompany, which could be a huge benefit for loaning in some of the German team’s best young talents that might not be ready to enter their first team.
