Steven Alzate looks set to leave Hull City at the end of the season, with interest mounting from both La Liga and Championship clubs ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to reports from AS Colombia, the Colombian midfielder is being closely tracked by Spanish top-flight clubs Valencia and Getafe. The 26-year-old, who has long expressed a desire to play in one of Europe’s elite leagues, could now have the opportunity to fulfil that ambition.
Alzate has impressed during a challenging season with Hull, becoming a regular under manager Rubén Sellés and making 29 appearances, 22 of them starts. His performances have earned him recognition as one of the Championship’s most effective midfielders, leading in interceptions and ranking highly in duel success and final-third passing accuracy.
Spain the Target as Alzate Eyes Exit
Despite receiving multiple offers from Championship sides, Alzate is reportedly prepared to reject them in favour of a move to Spain. Valencia and Getafe are both monitoring his situation closely, though any concrete approach may be delayed due to internal priorities.
Valencia are said to be seeking to offload players before committing to new signings, while Getafe are focused on maintaining their La Liga status before turning attention to summer recruitment.
Alzate has made a strong case for himself, not just with his statistics but also by winning Hull’s Player of the Month award in January. However, Hull’s battle against relegation continues, and Alzate is expected to play a key role in the club’s final fixture of the campaign against Portsmouth.
Alzate’s Career
The Colombian joined Hull in September 2024 on a two-year deal after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion. He previously spent two productive seasons on loan at Belgian side Standard Liège, where he became a key figure in midfield. Before that, Alzate had broken through at Brighton, scoring notable goals including a memorable winner at Anfield against Liverpool in 2021.
He also gained Premier League experience with Brighton after early career spells at Leyton Orient and Swindon Town. Alzate has been capped 25 times by Colombia, making his debut in 2019 and impressing during early appearances under manager Carlos Queiroz.
Despite injuries hampering parts of his development, he remains highly regarded for his technical ability and versatility in midfield.
Writer’s View
Steven Alzate’s form has been one of the few bright spots in Hull City’s season, and his exit would be a blow—but hardly a surprise. With his ambitions set on La Liga and interest from two respected Spanish clubs, this summer could finally see him get the move he’s long sought.
For Hull, the challenge will be not just replacing his quality, but also managing the blow of losing a standout performer while fighting for survival.
