Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Notts County face the difficult task of beating League Two’s best travellers to give themselves a chance of snatching third place and automatic promotion. County head into the fixture on the back of a much needed 3-1 victory at Harrogate Town. A goal from George Abbott and a double from Conor Grant ensured a first win in five for Stuart Maynard’s side.

Should they fail to get promoted, the Magpies will look back on the four fixtures prior to the win at Harrogate with great regret. County suffered three defeats in those four and picked up just one point, albeit a valuable point against fellow promotion hunters Bradford City.

Salford City and Cheltenham Town both left Meadow Lane with all three points while County came up short on the road at Colchester United, losing 1-0 to the U’s. The draw at Bradford City came courtesy of the ever green David McGoldrick who levelled after a Ciaran Kelly opener.

McGoldrick is one of the club’s top scorers this season with 17, just one behind Jatta on 18. George Abbott has chipped in with five goals and he also leads the assists chart with six. County have scored 67 goals so far this season at an average of 1.5 per game.

Defensively, Maynard’s side have been solid. They have conceded 47 goals and kept the joint fourth most cleans sheets with 16.

Doncaster Rovers are ending the season in fine form and have suffered just one defeat in their last 14 outings, including going undefeated for their last ten.

Promotion was secured thanks to a 2-1 over rivals Bradford City on Saturday with the all important goals coming from Lincoln City loanee Rob Street and Billy Sharp. Prior to Bradford, Grant McCann’s side enjoyed an excellent Easter weekend, firstly beating Tranmere Rovers 3-0 away from home before repeating that scoreline at home to Colchester United on Easter Monday.

Tranmere were beaten thanks to a Luke Molyneux hattrick before Harry Clifton, Jordan Gibson and Patrick Kelly saw of Colchester three days later.

Doncaster have the best away record in League Two this season, closely followed by Notts County, with 38 points and 11 wins from their 22 matches. A 12 win on the road will secure the League Two for Donny regardless of results elsewhere.

Rovers have scored 71 times in the league this season at an average of 1.6 per outing. Luke Molyneux is the club’s top scorer with 16 goals this season and he is followed by Rob Street who has scored on ten occasions. Molyneux’s stellar season continues as he leads the assist charts on 12 ahead of Jordan Gibson who has created seven goals.

Doncaster have kept 13 clean sheets so far this season, conceding 49 goals this season at an average of 1.1 per match.

These two sides were unable to be separated in the meeting earlier this season as they played out a 1-1 draw at the Eco-Power Stadium. County’s top scorer Alassana Jatta opened the scoring inside 15 minutes before Joe Ironside levelled the scores after 73 minutes.

Last season saw Notts County dominate this fixture despite Rovers finishing in the playoff spots and County managing a 14th place finish on their return to the Football League. A Macaulay Langstaff brace and a Jodi Jones strike put the visitors into a commanding 3-0 lead and a 95th minute Ayodeji Sotona strike was just a consolation for Donny.

In the return fixture at Meadow Lane, Joe Ironside missed a penalty that would have given Rovers the lead before Dan Crowley put the home side ahead after half an hour. Macaulay Langstaff was again on the scoresheet before Aaron Nemane rounded off the scoring early in the second half.

Prior to last season, the last meeting between these sides came in a 2018 EFL Trophy match. It was the hosts Notts County who again had the upper hand, running out 4-2 winners thanks to a Kristian Dennis hattrick and an Enzio Boldewijn strike.
