Birmingham City may have swept all before them in League One this season on their way to a record-breaking campaign to win promotion back to the Championship, but they still have two games left. This first one is a night under the Blackpool lights.
Our Three Predictions For Blackpool v Birmingham City
- Prediction 1 – Birmingham City To Win – 17/20
- Prediction 2 – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 3/4
- Prediction 3 – Both Teams To Score – No – 1/1
First Prediction For Blackpool v Birmingham City – Birmingham City To Win – 17/20
It is unsurprising that Birmingham City have the best away record in the division, as it matches their number one status at home, which leads to their convincing success and promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt. They have only lost three games away, which is their total for the whole campaign. They come into this game on a four game win streak on the road, outscoring opponents 8-4 in that time. They have won 13 of their 21 games away, and are looking to end the season on an absolute after reaching a record points tally for a League One team. Blackpool left their run for the playoffs too late but will finish in a respectable top half position, and give them a good platform to build into next season. They will need to be sharper at home as they have only won six times form 21 attempts, but only lost four. The Blues though will have to much as they power on to the seasons end.
Second Prediction For Blackpool v Birmingham City – Over 2.5 Goals Scored – 3/4
With goals in total it is easy to predict that Birmingham will once again find the net in this match. It is unlikely now they will hit the two goals a game average across the whole season but after scoring seven in their last three games they are still firing. Away from home they are a little lighter with 33 in total, seven in the last four trips away. If they score early it could prove a long night for the home side, who have a knack of drawing games with 11 at home. Keeping it tight will be key, and they may score but City have a tight defence on the road conceding only 19 so far and will want to keep another clean sheet as they aim to have one of the most convincing goal differences recorded in the modern era, standing at +50 before this game. This does look like a lock for plenty of goalmouth action with chances being converted.
Third Prediction For Blackpool v Birmingham City – Both Teams To Score – No – 1/1
Birmingham have scored 11 more goals than their nearest rivals in that statistic, and perhaps more impressively conceded just 30 times in their 44 games. Only fellow promotion side Wrexham come close at 34, all other teams have 40+ in the against column. With goals hard to come by against the League One champions, Blackpool will be hard pressed to get any joy in this game in the attacking areas. So not only will they have a difficult night defending, they will find it hard to add to their decent haul of 68 goals. The Tangerines may well draw a blank in this game, making the Birmingham defence even meaner with one game left.

Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head To Head
When Blackpool hired the services of Steve Bruce it was with a clear intention of a long game. He has made them a more cohesive unit and the future does look brighter. Of course each year League One seems to get harder to make moves in the right direction. Teams with perhaps bigger reputations come down, and those coming up have a point to prove. How the summer goes will be crucial. Keeping key players like top scorer Ashley Fletcher will be important, his 11 goals lead the way and the 29 year old also has an impressive eight assists. In defence Oliver Casey has been the most outstanding player, his 41 appearances are the most for the team this season, and has even added three goals. Welshman Lee Evans has had a solid season in midfield and could be the one to watch in this game as he tries to add to his five assists, as well as having a n eye for goal with four.
What hasn’t been said about Birmingham City so far you could write on a postage stamp – yes they still exist – as they aim to extend their season points record in this game. The 4-0 win over Mansfield Town at the weekend broke the previous mark, as they try and finish on a high. Chris Davies will want his side to continue winning ways and complete the most successful side of any League One outfit ever. It may have been predictable that once they found their feet they would run away with this division, but the manner has been exemplary. Jay Stansfield is one goal away from hitting 20 for the season, and it would be brave to bet against him achieving that in the remaining two games. Keshi Anderson and Tomoki Iwata have been one of the best midfield pairings in the whole of the EFL as they have been solid all season in both breaking up play and starting attacks. Their 13 goals and five assists is testament to that. The Championship will be a different test next season, but with huge momentum and some cash on their side who knows what they could be in twelve months time.
