Bradford City vs Fleetwood Town: Prediction, Lineups & Odds (03/05)

Third-placed Bradford City play host to Fleetwood Town on Saturday’s final matchday of the League Two season, with the Bantams needing to win to achieve automatic promotion to League One.

Our Three Predictions for Bradford City vs Fleetwood Town

  • First Prediction: Bradford City to win – 2/5
  • Second Prediction: Over 2.5 goals to be scored – 83/100
  • Third Prediction: Both teams to score – 19/20

First Prediction for Bradford City vs Fleetwood Town – Bradford City to win – 2/5

With Fleetwood having nothing to play for on the last day of the season and with promotion being in Bradford’s hands, they simply need to win to secure automatic promotion to League One. Although Bradford’s form has dipped as of late, so has their opponents, with both sides only winning one of their last five league games. The hosts come into this game on the back of two draws and two losses, three of which have come away from home. Graham Alexander’s side have the best home form in the fourth tier by eight points, only losing twice and winning 16 times on home soil this season. With the prospect of automatic promotion in Bradford’s hands, despite their recent poor form, it wouldn’t surprise anybody if they won against Fleetwood to secure promotion back up to the third tier of English football.

Second Prediction for Bradford City vs Fleetwood Town – Over 2.5 goals to be scored – 83/100

One thing both sides have been able to consistently prove this season is their ability to score goals, despite their star strikers suffering serious injuries. For Bradford, 34-year-old top-scorer Andy Cook has missed out since New Year’s Day with an ACL injury, whilst Fleetwood’s former top-scorer, Ronan Coughlan, snapped his achilles in late January. However, despite this, goals haven’t dried up for either side, with both sides averaging over 1.30 goals per game. Bradford have scored 63 goals in 45 games, whilst the Cods have scored three fewer in the same number of games. In addition, both sides also don’t have the greatest defensive records, Fleetwood conceding 59 goals, whilst Bradford have conceded 45. The Bantams have been involved in 20 games this season where three or more goals have been scored, whilst Pete Wild’s side have been involved in 22 games where more than three goals have been scored. The stats all suggest that this clash will be high-scoring, and with what is riding on it for the hosts, it wouldn’t be surprising to see plenty of goals in this game.

Third Prediction for Bradford City vs Fleetwood Town – Both teams to score – 19/20

On top of my previous point, Alexander’s side have only failed to score in 10 League Two matches, whilst the visitors have only failed to score in 14. Despite Fleetwood’s away form being average, they are the second-highest goal-scorers away from home, and have scored 36, which is only one less than play-off contenders Notts County. With Bradford conceding 10 goals in their last five games, Wild and his side will know they can exploit defensive frailties, especially with star centre-back Aden Baldwin suspended. The visitors don’t pose the greatest defensive record in their last five either, however, conceding eight goals, which Bradford will also be looking to exploit. The Cods also rank fourth-highest for goals conceded on the road, with 38. Bradford, at home, are the joint-third highest-scoring, and have scored the same number of goals as Fleetwood have conceded on the road this season. Again, the stats suggest that both sides will score in this one.

Full Preview of the Game – Last Results and Head-To-Head

As mentioned above, both sides come into this game in mixed form, with both sides only winning one game in their last five. The hosts have drawn two and lost two in their other four, whilst the Cods have lost three and drawn once.

With Fleetwood having nothing to play for, it’s no secret that Bradford desperately need all three points if they want to achieve automatic promotion to League One. With fourth-placed Walsall one point behind them, the Bantams aren’t relying on other results from around the grounds, unless they fail to win at the University of Bradford Stadium.

Since 2012, these sides have met 15 times, in both League One and League Two, as well as the playoffs. The hosts have won the most number of ties, winning six, whilst Fleetwood have won five. The other four games ended level at full time. Earlier this season, when these sides met at Highbury, it ended 1-0 to the Cods thanks to Coughlan’s early penalty.
