Sam Hoskins’ season for Northampton Town has been curtailed as it was revealed he will undergo surgery.
The winger has played 39 times for The Cobblers in his tenth season at the club, and has largely failed to reach the same heights of past seasons with seven goals and one assist across the campaign.
Surgery Needed For Hoskins
Speaking to BBC Radio Northampton ahead of Town’s penultimate League One game of the season away at Crawley Town, Kevin Nolan revealed that his number seven would miss the final two matches of the season to undergo knee surgery.
“Sam’s going to go under the knife so we can get him ready for pre-season – we’re not going to risk him any more.
“He’s been terrific and you can see the adulation of the fans to him, and what he’s done for this club, but we made that decision last week. I was sad because he didn’t get to have that moment on [the pitch on] Monday.
“He was a part of it because he was in and around the lads and the dressing room, but knowing Sam he would have been a bit gutted he wasn’t on the pitch and creating and having chances to score.”
His last game came against Reading on the 12th of April, and his teammates went and secured safety on Easter Monday with a convincing win over the already relegated Shrewsbury Town.
Writer’s View
Sam Hoskins has not had the best of seasons and with safety now secured, it is the best time for him to finally get his knee issues sorted ahead of next season. Nolan already has his mind set on the 2025-26 campaign and wants his players to prove themselves in their final matches against Crawley and Wigan Athletic. The former West Ham United man has had a great impact in his short tenure at Sixfields and may feel he can push this side even further up the third tier with the right approach.
