Leeds United’s maligned goalkeeper, Illan Meslier, could be on his way out of Elland Road this summer, with growing interest from English and European clubs, according to TEAMtalk.
Meslier’s future under Daniel Farke has been thrown into doubt after the 25-year-old was dropped from the starting line-up for the last three matches. A series of costly mistakes during Leeds’ promotion push led to the manager’s decision to turn to Karl Darlow instead.
European And Domestic Interest Grows
Despite Meslier’s struggles this season, there is no shortage of suitors. Rennes remain firmly in the hunt for a new goalkeeper with the imminent departure of 40-year-old Steve Mandanda, and Meslier is on their shortlist. PSV Eindhoven’s Walter Benitez is another option, but his availability on a free transfer makes him an attractive alternative.
Earlier links with Fiorentina have cooled, as the Serie A club have now secured David de Gea’s services with a contract extension, meaning no move for Meslier will materialise from Florence.
TEAMtalk understands that Meslier “will have offers from English and European clubs as his Leeds United career hangs in the balance.”
Leicester City could also join the race if they lose Mads Hermansen. The Foxes were relegated from the Premier League yesterday, which could force sales to balance their finances. If their keeper, Mads Hermansen, departs for a fee north of £30 million, Meslier could be seen as a prime replacement.
Leicester had considered Newcastle United’s Martin Dubravka previously but were unable to secure a deal. With Dubravka now staying at St James’ Park, attention could shift back to emerging talents like Meslier.
For Leeds, promotion back to the Premier League could be key to deciding the Frenchman’s fate. While Meslier is eager to remain a first-choice goalkeeper, the Whites may still look to upgrade the position even if they seal their return to the top flight.

Writer’s View
It feels increasingly inevitable that Illan Meslier’s time at Leeds United is coming to a close. Although immensely talented, inconsistency has plagued his game, especially during high-pressure moments. Leeds’ likely promotion could provide the perfect opportunity for a fresh start in goal, while Meslier himself may benefit from a move to reignite his career.
Clubs like Rennes or Leicester, should they need a replacement, would find a young, experienced keeper ready for redemption at a reasonable price.
