Wales international Sorba Thomas is still a target for Hull City, with new boss Roben Selles a keen admirer, according to reports.
However, the player is heading for a summer of uncertainty after his proposed move to Hull City in January failed to materialise. The 26-year-old winger is currently on loan at Ligue 1 side Nantes from Huddersfield Town, but with the French club unlikely to take up their €4 million option to buy, a return to Yorkshire is looking increasingly likely.
Thomas has made 23 appearances across all competitions for Les Canaris, starting 11 matches in the French top flight. He’s scored once and registered a single assist, but hasn’t done quite enough to convince Nantes to invest long-term. His parent club, Huddersfield, still have him under contract until the summer of 2026.
Tigers Still Interested?
Hull City were close to securing Thomas’ signature in January after agreeing terms with the Terriers. However, Nantes insisted on keeping the player for the remainder of the campaign, with manager Antoine Kombouaré reluctant to cut short the season-long loan agreement.
In response, the Tigers turned their attention to Louie Barry, bringing in the Aston Villa youngster on a short-term deal. Despite Barry’s impact being limited due to injury, City’s interest in Thomas hasn’t entirely gone cold.
Head coach Ruben Selles is understood to remain a firm admirer of the winger, and with Hull’s league status for next season still undetermined, Thomas remains on the watchlist – particularly if they stay in the Championship.
Planning for the summer transfer window has largely been paused at the MKM Stadium, with the club’s focus squarely on securing safety. Should they avoid relegation, re-igniting the move for Thomas could be one of their first orders of business.
The player himself is also believed to be keen on a return to English football, having expressed an interest in the move during the January window.

Writer’s View
There’s a clear sense that Sorba Thomas still has unfinished business in England. His time in France has been steady but unspectacular, and the fact Hull City previously agreed a deal for him shows how seriously they rate him. Should the Tigers stay in the Championship, this could be a deal worth revisiting – especially with Selles clearly looking to bolster his wide options. A move might hinge on both Thomas’ own ambitions and Hull’s end-of-season fortunes.
