League Two leaders Bradford City are embracing their new status as the team to beat, according to manager Graham Alexander, who insists the shift from ‘chasers’ to ‘chased’ has changed little in his side’s mindset as they prepare to face Swindon Town this weekend.
Top spot brings attention — but not distraction
The Bantams, top of the League Two table for the first time at this point in a season since 1984-85, face growing pressure from the chasing pack in what has become a tight race for promotion. Yet Alexander maintains that being the team others are targeting hasn’t altered his players’ approach.
“I felt like we were being chased when we were in second position as well,” said Alexander. “It’s three teams going up automatically, so that’s the target. I think we’ve been in that mindset for a few weeks now.”
With at least six clubs still eyeing a top-three finish, Alexander has urged his players to stay focused on what lies directly in front of them rather than becoming consumed by the league table or outside noise.
“There’s always talk about perception — chasing versus being chased — but at the end of the day you still have to win games. That’s the job. Our eyes are on the next challenge until we cross the line.”

Triple fitness boost for key weekend test
Bradford travel to Swindon for a Saturday lunchtime clash, bolstered by positive news on the fitness front. Alex Pattison and Niall Byrne, who were both withdrawn during the weekend win over Crewe, returned to training on Wednesday and are expected to be available.
Meanwhile, midfielder Antoni Sarcevic is progressing well in his recovery from a hamstring injury. Though not yet guaranteed to feature, he has trained this week and continues to be monitored closely.
“They could have trained on Tuesday, but we managed them a little, just to be cautious,” Alexander explained. ”
At this stage of the season we’re not trying to make players any fitter — we just need to maintain them and make sure any niggles are completely out of the system.”
“We have to keep our eyes right in front of us, it’s the next challenge and hurdle and overcome it until the finishing line,” said Alexander.
Writer’s view
Bradford City’s evolution from chasing pack to pace-setters has been smooth under Alexander, who’s keeping expectations grounded while pushing for consistency. With three vital players returning at just the right time, the Bantams appear to be managing the pressure well. If they continue to simplify their focus, they may just finish the season where they are now — on top.
