Full Preview Of The Game: Last Results And Head-To-Head:

Bristol City head into this fixture with just one defeat in their last five games with that defeat coming against promotion hopefuls Burnley in their previous outing. The Robins last win game came in their final match before the international break against Norwich City. Goals from Mark Sykes and Nakhi Wells inside 25 minutes were enough to hand City the win despite Borja Sainz pulling one back late on for the Canaries.

Two draws preceded the victory over Norwich, with two points being dropped at home to struggling Hull City and a creditable draw at Bramall Lane against leaders Sheffield United. The Robins could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to struggling Hull who were reduced to ten men inside 15 minutes. The Tigers were already ahead at that stage thanks to Joao Pedro the hosts needed an Anis Mehmeti penalty to rescue a draw.

Midfielder Joe Williams gave an impressive performance against Sheffield United as Liam Manning’s side equalised in the 90th minute thanks to a Mark Sykes strike after Tyrese Campbell goal had given the Blades the lead.

Bristol City are currently eighth in the Championship with 57 points from their 39 games, level on points with West Bromwich Albion who occupy the final playoff spot. The Robins have won 14, drawn 15 and lost ten of those matches, scoring 49 goals at an average of 1.3 per game and conceded 42 at an average 1.1 a match.

Jason Knight, Rob Dickie and Luke McNally have all been top performers for City this season and Anis Mehmeti is the top scorer with 12 goals, followed by Nahki Wells follows him on eight. Max Bird leads the assist charts with seven and Knight has helped to create five goals.

Watford have only won once in their previous five outings, a 1-0 win at Vicarage Road over Swansea City thanks to Moussa Sissoko. In those five games, the Hornets have drawn two and lost two including a draw at Stoke City and a defeat away at Oxford United.

Centre back James Abankwah was the star man as Watford left Stoke with a point thanks to a goalless draw in a game of few goalscoring opportunities. Matthew Pollock had given Tom Cleverley’s men the lead at home to Millwall before the Lions hit back through Casper de Norre and Josh Coburn to claim victory.

Abankwah was then sent off as his side fell to a 1-0 reverse at Oxford United before dropping two points at Vicarage Road to Plymouth Argyle in a game they will feel they should have won.

Watford are one place and four points below their hosts in ninth place, having taken 53 points and winning 15 of their 39 outings this season. The club have scored 47 times at an average of 1.2 per game and conceded 51 at 1.3 a match.

Imran Louza, Georgi Chakvetadze and Matthew Pollock have been three of Watford’s most consistent performers and top scorer Vakoun Issouf Bayo has scored ten time and Edo Kayembe has eight to his name. Chakvetadze and Pollock lead the assist charts with six and four respectively.

The last 15 matches between the pair have seen Watford register six wins to Bristol City’s four with the sides being unable to be separated on six occasions. In their meeting earlier this season, it was Watford who came out on top thanks to a Ryan Andrews strike early in the second half at Vicarage Road.

The Robins’ last win came on Boxing Day 2023 in the shape of a 4-1 win at Watford. Goals from Cameron Ping, Wesley Hoedt, Mark Sykes and Andreas Weimann secured all three points for Liam Manning’s side.
