Huddersfield Town’s League One ambitions took a significant blow after they were defeated 1-0 by Lincoln City on the road, and their fans vented their frustrations.
The Terriers’ loss left them in eighth place, just two points adrift of the play-off spots, with only seven games remaining this season. Reeco Hackett’s 35th-minute strike proved to be the match winner, marking a disappointing outcome for the Terriers who have now lost six of their last eight fixtures.
The game was a frustrating affair for Huddersfield, with few attacking moments to speak of. Interim manager Jon Worthington reflected on the defeat, acknowledging the team’s inability to capitalise on key moments in the final third. He stated:
“We lost the game on a set-piece and we knew it was a strength of theirs, so it is very frustrating. We are in a results business and we’ve not got that. The lads showed fight and worked hard but we didn’t have enough quality in the final third.
“We started the game brightly and controlled spells but we just didn’t do enough in our attacking moments. Lincoln are a well-organised team and we had to be more patient against them.”
Huddersfield’s attacking play was blunt, and their inability to break down Lincoln’s solid defensive unit was evident throughout the match. The Terriers failed to register a single shot on target, with their only notable effort coming from David Kasumu, whose wild strike sailed over the bar in the opening stages.
After the match, some disgruntled supporters voiced their frustrations, singing “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” in protest at the team’s performance. Worthington acknowledged the fans’ disappointment but vowed to do everything possible to turn the team’s fortunes around.
“Nobody wants to hear the fans say that towards the players, but they’ve come out and not got the result they wanted. We will do our absolute hardest to turn it around.”
Lincoln City‘s season is over, with neither promotion nor relegation a real possibility, but they fought and scrapped for three points, which was well earned, meaning you have to go back to 1982 for the Terrier’s last normal season league win at the LNER Stadium.

With only seven games left, Huddersfield Town’s hopes of making a late push for the play-offs are rapidly fading. The loss to Lincoln City highlighted the team’s persistent struggles in attack and their inability to capitalise on key moments. Worthington will need to address these issues quickly if they are to salvage their season and remain in contention for promotion.
