German giants RB Leipzig have held initial talks with Sunderland over the potential transfer of midfielder Jobe Bellingham, according to reports in Germany.
The 19-year-old has been a huge hit at the Stadium of Light since joining from Birmingham City in 2023. He has played a starring role this season as the Black Cats have launched their bid to return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.
His performances on Wearside have caught the eye of a number of potential suitors, including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur. It is also said that Borussia Dortmund are huge admirers and are hoping their role in brother Jude Bellingham’s development could play a factor in his decision this summer.
Fresh Interest From The Bundesliga
The England under-21 international is expected to be the subject of numerous bids at the end of the season. With Dortmund so keen, it is said that their league rivals RB Leipzig are hoping to gain an advantage in the race.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Leipzig have made several enquiries over his availability. However, they still view Sunderland’s valuation as too high.

Previous reports have claimed that the teenager’s valuation could be as high as £20 million due to his excellent performances this season. Sunderland’s position is further strengthened due to the length of Bellingham’s contract, which is set to expire in 2028.
Writer’s View
Sunderland know that failure to reach the Premier League this season is likely to see a number of their first team stars attract interest from both home and abroad this summer. Bellingham is one of their crown jewels, but the likes of Chris Rigg and Dennis Cirkin could also be the subject of big money bids. That said, the Black Cats are shown in the past that they won’t be willing to let their players go on the cheap, with Ipswich Town launching a number of bids for Jack Clarke last summer before landing the winger for £15 million plus £5 million in add-ons.
