Huddersfield Town Boss Targets Immediate Reaction

Huddersfield Town interim manager Jon Worthington is targeting an immediate reaction from their 4-0 defeat against Charlton Athletic when they travel to Lincoln City tomorrow.

The Terriers have endured a torrid few weeks which saw them lose four out of five to severely dent their promotion aspirations. This resulted in Michael Duff losing his job following a 1-0 defeat against Bristol Rovers on March 8th.

Worthington was handed the position on an interim basis until the end of the season, giving the club ample time to find a suitable replacement. The 41-year-old – who represented the club as a player – got off to the best possible start by winning 5-1 against Crawley Town in his opening fixture.

That result saw Huddersfield move back into the top six, but the international break halted any potential momentum. They then suffered embarrassment at the weekend when they were swept aside by fellow play-off contenders Charlton, with Reading replacing the Yorkshire club in sixth.

Worthington Hoping For Immediate Recovery

In a short turnaround, Huddersfield travel to the East Midlands tomorrow night to take on mid-table Lincoln City. It’s a game in which Worthington is targeting three points to put their season back on track. Speaking to BBC Radio Leedshe said:

“We came in Sunday and digested the game and get closure on it.

“Everything that I saw in the game and when I watched it back was just the same. The disappointment was us getting out-fought in moments and our reaction to the first goal.

“I said all along it wouldn’t be plain-sailing and there were going to be challenges and a bit of a rollercoaster, but we deal with it and move on.

“The players are an honest bunch and it’s about reacting and putting it right.”

Writer’s View

The mauling at The Valley was a stark reminder at just how tough it can be to get out of League One. Huddersfield have spent big in order to secure a return to the Championship at the first time of asking, but they now face a real fight to even reach the play-offs. With Charlton and Stockport County starting to pull away in fourth and fifth respectively, it’s becoming a bit of a race for who can finish sixth, with as many as five teams still hoping to be the one who breaks in. Lincoln is a tough place to go and they will have to be at their best to return to winning ways.
