Bradford City Boss Addresses Away Day Blues

Bradford City head coach Graham Alexander has dismissed concerns about their record on the road, insisting the squad are on an upward trajectory.

City have been dominant at Valley Parade this season, boasting the best home form in the division. Only Championship side Birmingham City have earned more points across the entire EFL. However, performances away from home have not hit the same heights, with the Bantams collecting just 21 points from 18 games on their travels – placing them mid-table in the away rankings.

Momentum building outside of West Yorkshire

Despite the contrasting records, Alexander remains composed ahead of back-to-back away fixtures against Accrington Stanley and Port Vale. The upcoming matches could see City rise to the summit of the League Two table, if results go their way.

The Bradford boss believes recent form on the road paints a more accurate picture of progress. His side have only suffered two away defeats since Christmas, a sign that subtle tactical tweaks are starting to deliver results.

“If we were matching our home record away, then we’d be home and dry. That’s not the scenario, but as long as we keep picking up points – and I think we have made good progress since January – I’m happy.

“We’ve made a couple of changes in how we plan and prepare, but still play the same way. It paid dividends, but we have to go again and improve again.”

Alexander pointed to narrow defeats where he felt a point was deserved, and cited wins at Bromley and Salford as evidence of growing resilience. The manager is keen to stress that no overhaul is required, just refinement.

City will be roared on by a full away end at Accrington, with fans optimistic that the promotion push remains firmly on track. Confidence within the camp is matched by growing belief among supporters, who have seen their side transform into serious title contenders.

In terms of team news, Alex Pattison and Ciaran Kelly could return to the starting XI. Bobby Pointon, who made a late appearance last time out, may be eased in more gradually. Jack Shepherd is also available for selection after returning to full training.

Writer’s view

There’s no question Bradford’s home form has underpinned their title tilt, but their away results don’t quite tell the full story. Recent performances have shown maturity and tactical discipline, and Alexander’s calm response to the criticism is telling. This is a manager who understands the process. With the top of the table within touching distance, now is the time for City to turn their away narrative into one of strength rather than concern.
