Middlesbrough are exploring a move to sign Mark Travers from AFC Bournemouth on a permanent basis, with the Republic of Ireland international impressing since arriving on loan in January, as reported by Football League World.
Travers joined Boro late in the winter window after first-choice keeper Seny Dieng battled both form and fitness concerns. Neither Thomas Glover nor Sol Brynn had convinced Michael Carrick they were ready to step up, prompting the club to secure Travers on a temporary deal until the end of the campaign.
From Fringe To First Choice
The 25-year-old had fallen down the pecking order at Bournemouth following the arrival of Neto. Despite playing a key role in the Cherries’ 2021-22 promotion from the Championship, a heavy defeat at Liverpool early the following season marked a turning point. Travers has since made just 17 Premier League appearances and spent time on loan at Stoke City last term.
Since making his Teesside debut, Travers has added calmness and reliability to the Boro backline. While his early games resulted in defeats, recent form has seen the team improve markedly, with just three goals conceded in five matches and a solid return of 10 points.
Boro boss Carrick is said to be keen to make the move permanent, although Bournemouth’s asking price remains unclear. The goalkeeper is under contract at the Vitality Stadium until 2027, meaning the Cherries could demand a notable fee despite Travers being out of favour.
Reports suggest Bournemouth are pursuing a deal for Chelsea loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer. Should that signing go through, it could pave the way for Travers to move on—and Middlesbrough are poised to make their move.

Writer’s View
Mark Travers has quietly become a key figure in Boro’s revival, offering security at a position that caused major concern earlier this season. With his contract running to 2027, Bournemouth hold the cards—but their pursuit of Kepa may open the door. For Carrick and Boro, landing Travers long-term could be a smart, stability-focused move heading into next season.
