Carlisle United clawed back valuable ground in the League Two relegation fight as they twice came from behind to earn a spirited 2-2 draw with MK Dons at Brunton Park.
Joe Tomlinson gave the visitors an early lead before Matty Dennis, facing his former club, drew the hosts level. However, MK Dons quickly responded through Alex Gilbey, only for Kadeem Harris to ensure the points were shared with a fine strike just before the break.
Where It Leaves Carlisle
The result sees Carlisle remain six points adrift of safety, still behind third-bottom Tranmere Rovers, but it was a performance that showed renewed fight and belief from the Cumbrians.
However, a point may not be enough, and with games running out, they’ll perhaps feel three would have given them something more tangible to cling to.

All square after fast and furious first half
MK Dons were ahead inside six minutes when Aaron Nemane found space on the right and squared the ball to Tomlinson, who applied a cool finish at the far post.
The hosts responded well and were back on terms by the 26th minute. Archie Davies surged down the right flank before whipping in a pinpoint cross that Dennis, rising highest, guided home with a powerful header.
But just over 10 minutes later, the Dons struck again. A mix-up at the back allowed Gilbey to latch onto a loose ball, round goalkeeper Gabe Breeze, and restore the visitors’ lead in the 37th minute.
As half-time approached, Carlisle found another response. Harris picked up the ball on the right side of the area and unleashed a fierce drive into the far corner in the fourth minute of stoppage time to make it 2-2.
Second Half
The second half failed to live up to the drama of the first, with clear-cut chances at a premium. Jordan Jones came closest to breaking the deadlock with a powerful long-range effort that forced a save from Connal Trueman.
Carlisle pushed for a late winner, and substitute Stephen Wearne saw a looping header from a Jones cross narrowly clear the bar in the dying moments.
Writer’s view
While Carlisle still face an uphill battle to avoid the drop, this was a step in the right direction, however small. The resilience shown to come back twice against a play-off chasing MK Dons side will give fans hope. The challenge now is turning that fight into wins — something they’ll need soon with the games running out.
