Rochdale AFC continue their quest for a National League play-off place when they host fellow promotion chasers York City at the Crown Oil Arena.
Our Three Predictions For Rochdale AFC vs York City
- First Prediction: Match Result – Draw – 9/4
- Second Prediction: Both Teams To Score – 3/4
- Third Prediction: Over 1.5 Goals – 1/4
First Prediction For Rochdale AFC vs York City – Match Result – Draw – 9/4
Rochdale enter this game having hit a dip in form at just the wrong time. They are winless in their last three, although their last two results are especially disappointing. They suffered a home defeat against relegation threatened Boston United last week before a 1-1 draw against Maidenhead United yesterday. Still, Dale cling on to the final play-off place in seventh, although they have seen the gap to eighth-placed Southend United close to just one point following the Shrimpers 2-1 win over Eastleigh. It’s worth noting that Jimmy McNulty’s side to possess two games in hand on the teams below them though.
York have also hit a bit of a rut in recent weeks, winning just two of their last eight in the league. This has seen them lose ground in the title race, with Barnet now 14 points clear at the top. They are virtually assured of a play-off place though, which may be a reason for their drop in form. Still, they will want to turn things around to enter the play-offs with a bit of momentum, but there is arguably more riding on this game for Rochdale. As a result, the two teams could cancel each other out.
Second Prediction For Rochdale AFC vs York City – Both Teams To Score – 3/4
Rochdale have been in good goalscoring form as of late, scoring in their last eight in all competitions. With so much riding on the game, they will desperate to continue that run here. Although their defensive record this season has been excellent, they have conceded in four of their last five and come up against a team that have found the back of the net 70 times in 38 games.
York have been deadly in front of goal and boast the league’s top scorer in Ollie Pearce. They also added Josh Stones to their ranks in January, with the 21-year-old having scored five times in 13 appearances. Like Rochdale, the Minstermen are averaging less than one goal conceded per game, but have conceded three of their last four outings.
Third Prediction For Rochdale AFC vs York City – Over 1.5 Goals – 1/4
We’re playing safe with an over 1.5 goals bet here, but the recent statistics show this should be a successful prediction. Rochdale are actually one of the lowest in the league when it comes to seeing two goals or more, with 67% of their games achieving this result. However, their last five have all seen at least two goals.
84% of York’s 38 games have produced a minimum of two goals, a statistic only bettered by Tamworth and AFC Fylde. Only two of their last 14 have fallen under this mark and it’s difficult to see a low scoring affair here. For the risky ones, over 2.5 goals is available at evens.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
The business end of the National League season is often a predictable affair and this year is no different. Rochdale are still dreaming of a return to the EFL after a two-year absence but have found themselves clinging on to their play-off hopes. They do still sit in the top seven, despite not winning in three. Their last outing saw them draw 1-1 with struggling Maidenhead United, following on from a 3-2 defeat against Boston United. A 1-1 draw earlier this month against local rivals Oldham Athletic was a respectable result, whilst they started March with four successive wins over Altrincham in the FA Trophy, Gateshead, Wealdstone and again Altrincham in the league.
York looked as if they would push Barnet for the National League title all the way but have fallen off in recent weeks. March has been a tricky month, picking up two wins in five. Those victories came against Hartlepool United and Yeovil Town, whilst they picked up a point against Forest Green Rovers. However, defeats against Altrincham and Braintree Town were disappointing to say the least. The Minstermen still sit second in the table, but Steve Cotterill’s Forest Green are just two points further back.
York won the clash between the two earlier this season, emerging with a 1-0 victory at the LNER Community Stadium in August. The corresponding fixture at the Crown Oil Arena last season finished 0-0. York have a good record in Rochdale and haven’t tasted defeat in their last five visits. Dale last picked up three points at home against the Minstermen in 2002 with a stunning 5-4 win when both teams were in League Two.
