Cambridge United have announced the departure of assistant head coach Jason Euell with immediate effect, as the club undergoes a restructuring process under new head coach Neil Harris.
Euell, who featured for Jamaica and played in the Premier League during his career, is now looking for a new challenge.
Coaching changes at the Abbey Stadium
Euell, who arrived at the club last summer as part of Garry Monk’s backroom staff, departs following Monk’s exit last month. With Harris now at the helm, Cambridge have opted to part ways with Euell as they look to finalise a new coaching team before pre-season begins.
Director of football Mark Bonner confirmed the decision, expressing gratitude for Euell’s contributions during his time at the club.
“As everybody knows, we are reviewing every part of the football operation at the moment and, as part of that change process, Neil will soon be appointing his own assistant head coach, so that they can be in place before the start of pre-season.
“We are very grateful to Jason for all his hard work this season. He is a talented coach with deep experience of the game at the highest level, and I am sure he will go on to enjoy further success within football over the years to come.”

Euell’s coaching journey
A former Wimbledon and Charlton Athletic forward, Euell has been steadily building his coaching career in recent years. His early managerial experience came at Charlton, where he worked with the club’s U21s before stepping into first-team coaching roles.
In 2019, he joined the England U20 coaching staff as part of The FA’s Elite Coach Placement Programme, before returning to Charlton as a first-team coach in 2021. He later took up a role at Bristol City in 2022, working alongside Nigel Pearson before both left the club in October 2023.
His latest position at Cambridge lasted just under a year, but his wealth of experience suggests he will be a sought-after figure in the coaching landscape.
What’s next for Cambridge United?
With Euell now out of the picture, attention turns to who will replace him as Harris’ assistant. The club has made it clear that a new appointment will be in place before pre-season, as Cambridge aim to stabilise ahead of the upcoming League One relegation battle, and potential drop into League Two.
Writer’s view
Jason Euell’s departure highlights the inevitable turnover that comes with managerial changes. While his time at Cambridge was short-lived, his coaching pedigree remains strong, and it’s likely he will find another role soon. For Cambridge, the focus now shifts to assembling a backroom team that aligns with Harris’ vision, as they look to push forward in a competitive League One season.
