Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to plunder Leeds United once more as they target Harry Gray.
Ange Postecoglu’s side swooped in at Elland Road last summer to poach the 16-year-old’s older brother Archie, who has been a regular in the Premier League amid their injury crisis.
Spurs Eye Gray… Again
According to reports in TBR Football from Graeme Bailey, Tottenham among other sides are considering a move for Harry Gray this summer, with the White Hart Lane side believing they have the advantage over their rivals due to them already signing his older brother. It is also reported that their North London archenemies Arsenal and EFL Cup winners Newcastle United are interested.
The 16-year-old is already in and around the first-team squad for Daniel Farke’s side, but he is yet to make any form of senior debut for The Whites. The report also notes that Leeds are ‘confident’ in retaining Harry’s services despite being able to hand him his first long-term deal once he turns 17 in October.
He has already been recognised by the England set-up, with him being involved in their Under 17’s doubleheader against The Netherlands last month. Gray started the first game and was brought on from the bench in the second. However, he is not in the squad for their upcoming EURO qualification games next week.
Writer’s View
The Gray family have a storied legacy at Elland Road, through Eddie, Archie and now Harry Gray. The former’s contributions under Don Revie cannot be understated, whilst arguably the money accrued by selling Archie to Spurs this summer has given the foothold to bounce back into the Premier League by the end of the season. Whilst it will be a blow to lose Harry to the North London club in the near future, Leeds should feel confident of keeping their young striker for the next few years and make his mark at Elland Road.
