Former Colchester United Striker Seals New Agreement With Club

Bury Town have bolstered their attacking options ahead of the final stretch of the season by signing former Colchester United striker Tom Stagg from Isthmian League North rivals Witham Town.

The 22-year-old forward arrives at the promotion-chasing side following a brief spell at Witham, where he scored in both of his appearances—including netting on his debut against Bury Town in February.

Stagg, who came through Colchester United’s academy, made his only professional appearance for the U’s in a 0-0 draw with Tranmere Rovers on the final day of the 2020/21 season. Since leaving Colchester, he has featured for several clubs in the non-league pyramid, including Billericay Town, Weymouth, Carshalton Athletic, and Hashtag United.

Cole Skuse Delighted with New Addition

Bury Town boss Cole Skuse has been vocal about his side’s need to be more clinical in front of goal and believes Stagg will provide a vital boost to their promotion bid.

“I know Tommy from my time at Colchester United and he is a talented player who will very much be an asset to us for what will be a vital run-in towards the end of the season,” Skuse told the club’s website.

Stagg has already trained with his new teammates and is expected to make his debut this Saturday in a crucial clash against Brightlingsea Regent.

Title Race Heating Up

Bury Town currently sit second in the Isthmian League North Division, three points behind leaders Brentwood Town with seven matches remaining. Felixstowe & Walton United are close behind in third, making for an exciting battle at the top of the table.

After a recent run of two draws and a defeat, Bury returned to winning ways last weekend with a 2-1 victory over Tilbury. Goals from Cemal Ramadan—his 24th of the season—and Lewis O’Malley secured a crucial three points, keeping the pressure on the league leaders.

Writer’s View

This is a smart signing for Bury Town at a critical moment in their season. Stagg’s experience across multiple levels of non-league football and his recent goal-scoring form at Witham could provide the cutting edge they need in their promotion push. With just seven games to go, every point is vital, and his addition could make a decisive difference in the final run-in.
