AFC Bournemouth and Italian side Como are reportedly preparing to battle for the signature of Stoke City goalkeeper Viktor Johansson in the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to reports from Sportbladet, both clubs have expressed their interest in securing the services of the Swedish international, who has been a key figure for Stoke City since joining from Rotherham United last summer.
Johansson has made 40 appearances this season, keeping 12 clean sheets while conceding 53 goals. His performances have caught the attention of several clubs despite being under contract with the Potters until 2027.
Stoke City Keen to Keep Johansson
Stoke City are eager to retain their first-choice goalkeeper and were able to fend off an offer from Como in the January window. However, the Italian club remains determined to make another attempt in the summer.
Currently sitting 20th in Serie B, just one point above the relegation zone, Como are looking to strengthen their squad, and Johansson has emerged as a priority target.
Stoke are reluctant to sell, but interest from Bournemouth and Como could test their resolve if a substantial offer arrives.

Viktor Johansson Career So Far
Johansson began his career with Stuvsta, Hammarby, Aston Villa, Alfreton Town, and Leicester City before joining Rotherham United in September 2020. He debuted in a 2–1 win over Preston North End on 7 November 2020 and was named the club’s Young Player of the Year. Despite Rotherham’s relegation, he helped them secure an immediate return to the Championship in 2021–22, finishing second and winning the EFL Trophy at Wembley.
Recognized for his shot-stopping ability, Johansson recorded the Championship’s highest goals prevented statistic (8.5) and won Rotherham’s Player of the Year award. Manager Matt Taylor hailed him as “the best goalkeeper in the Championship.” Following Rotherham’s relegation in 2023–24, reports emerged of a £1 million release clause in his contract. Before the club’s final match, he gifted fans 600 free pints as a farewell gesture.
On 18 May 2024, Johansson joined Stoke City on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
Writer’s View
Johansson has proven himself to be a dependable shot-stopper in the Championship, and it is no surprise that clubs are vying for his signature. Bournemouth’s Premier League status could give them an edge over Como in negotiations, but Stoke City’s stance will be crucial. If a substantial offer arrives, the Potters may have to make a tough decision regarding their No.1.
