Sheffield United striker Tyrese Campbell has been tipped to break Sheffield Wednesday hearts ahead of the 146th Steel City Derby tomorrow afternoon.
The Blades lost ground in the Championship title race on Tuesday night when they were held to a 1-1 draw with Bristol City. Table toppers Leeds United capitalised a day later by beating Millwall, opening up a two-point gap at the summit.
An immediate return to the Premier League does look increasingly likely though. They can take another giant stride towards the top tier tomorrow when they make the short trip across the city to face bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Campbell Tipped To Be Difference Maker
One player they will be relying on to produce the goods is Campbell, who enters the game in a rich vein of form. He has nine goals to his name this season, which includes three in his last three outings. He also hit six in eight prior to Christmas before suffering a hamstring injury.
He comes up against a Wednesday defence that has conceded 58 goals this season. As such, the former Stoke City man has been tipped to be the difference maker by Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman. Speaking to Football League World, the commentator said:
“I think a fit Tyrese Campbell is a handful for anybody in the division.
“With regards to Sheffield Wednesday and having a makeshift back four, they were struggling defensively even when they had all of their first choice defenders fit.”
“The defensive side of things has been a real struggle for them – I think only four teams have conceded more goals as them, Sheffield Wednesday.
“And ultimately if they fall short of a play-off spot, you could argue that’s the area of the pitch that will have proved costly in reality.
“As I say, a fit Tyrese Campbell is looking sharp as he is, amongst the goals again, would be a threat to anyone – let alone a team that concede as many as Sheffield Wednesday do.”
Writer’s View
Campbell has shown just how good he is at this level this season and looks to be regaining his form at just the right time. He was excellent during the first half of the campaign, but injury derailed his progress. It took him a while to get going upon his return in January, but he now looks back to his best. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him score for a fourth successive game at Hillsborough.
