Portsmouth forward Kusini Yengi has been called up to the Australia national team for their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Indonesia and China.
Yengi, 26, has recently returned to full fitness after spending three months on the sidelines with cruciate knee ligament damage, an injury he sustained while on international duty in November. Despite featuring just twice since his comeback—against Luton and Leeds—his performances have been enough to earn an automatic recall to the Socceroos squad.

Yengi made his Adelaide United debut on 21 February 2020, coming on as a substitute in a 5–2 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers—the club he would later join. On 13 March 2021, he starred in a clash against Melbourne Victory, scoring and assisting in a heated rivalry match. At Western Sydney, Yengi cemented his derby reputation, scoring decisive goals against Sydney FC.
After arriving at Portsmouth in July 2023, Yengi has made a strong impression in League One, playing a key role in Pompey’s title-winning campaign. His return to full fitness comes at a crucial time for both club and country.
Yengi’s International Journey
Yengi made his international debut for Australia in November 2023, featuring in a World Cup qualifier against Bangladesh. He was later included in the squad for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar, earning his first start in a group stage match against Uzbekistan.
His first international goal came in a qualifier against Lebanon on 26 March 2024, further cementing his status within the Socceroos setup.
