Injury Boost For Charlton Athletic In Promotion Hunt

Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones has confirmed that key winger Tyreece Campbell is available for Saturday’s League One fixture against Stockport County.

The 21-year-old, who played a crucial role in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory over Barnsley, was withdrawn late in the game, prompting concerns over his fitness. However, Jones has assured fans that Campbell’s substitution was a precautionary measure rather than due to an injury.

“Tyreece, it is stuff we monitor, but he is fine,” Jones explained. “It wasn’t an injury as such, it was more fatigue and cramping – that can lead to injury if you’re not careful.”

Campbell has been a regular fixture in Charlton’s lineup this season, making 39 appearances across all competitions, contributing five goals and one assist. His form has been a key factor in the Addicks’ recent performances, and his availability for the weekend provides a boost to the squad.

Squad in Good Shape Despite Maynard-Brewer Setback

Jones also provided an update on the general fitness of his squad, highlighting that competition for places remains strong.

“As you would imagine, the squad is in good shape and there is really good competition,” he said. “One or two got games with the U21s the other day to keep everyone fresh and we had a really good training session today.”

However, Charlton will continue to be without first-choice goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer, who remains sidelined with a groin injury sustained in last month’s 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City.

With Maynard-Brewer still some way from returning, Will Mannion is set to continue as the team’s starting goalkeeper.

“Ashley is a bit further away, so that one we have just parked a little bit while he gets back up to speed,” Jones explained. “He is out on the grass and jogging, but it’s an injury which is going to be a little while yet.”

Writer’s View

Charlton fans will be relieved to hear that Campbell’s midweek substitution was nothing more than fatigue rather than a fresh injury concern. With the winger playing such a pivotal role in the team’s attacking output, his fitness will be crucial in the coming weeks.

The continued absence of Maynard-Brewer is a setback, but Mannion has stepped in capably, giving the Addicks stability between the posts. With the squad in good shape and competition for places strong, Jones will be hoping for another positive result against Stockport to maintain momentum in League One.
