A host of Premier League clubs are eyeing a move for Norwich City striker Josh Sargent, according to journalist Graeme Bailey.
The 25-year-old has seen his stock rise over the past couple of seasons thanks to some excellent form in East Anglia. He hit 16 goals last season for the Canaries and has followed that up by bagging 11 and contributing five assists this term. Both of these returns are even more impressive considering he has spent a large amount of time on the treatment table in each campaign.
The USA international underwent groin surgery in November, returning to action in January. Since then, he has hit the back of the net seven times in nine league outings, including two in the recent 4-2 win over Stoke City.
Premier League Clubs Lining Up
Sargent arrived at Carrow Road from Werder Bremen for a fee of £8 million in 2021 on a four-year deal. Although he struggled in the Premier League, he has excelled at Championship level and penned fresh terms to 2028 in 2023.
According to Graeme Bailey, there is a belief that the attacker is a different player to the one who arrived in England four years ago. As such, he has attracted the attention of Nottingham Forest and Everton. Speaking about Forest’s interest, he said:
“Forest, as we know from January, are looking to bolster their attacking options and they are one of the clubs to have watched Josh Sargent. Forest are one of those clubs who have numerous targets and much will depend on where they finish – if they’re in a Champions League spot, it could be that their ambitions and targets are somewhat different.”
However, talking to Everton News, he also confirmed the Toffees were amongst his admirers:
“Everton are in the market for strikers, and they are doing work on options.
“Sargent has enjoyed a very good season, and he clearly is the sort of number 9 that would suit a David Moyes system.
“I am told that Everton are one of the clubs to have watched the American in recent weeks.”
Writer’s View
It does appear as if Josh Sargent will be the subject of a host of interest in the summer. Leeds United have also been linked should they secure their place in the Premier League. Norwich will be hoping that they can make a late surge into the play-offs and achieve promotion. It would seem that would be their best hope of convincing the American to remain at Carrow Road. However, they currently sit 11th in the Championship, four points off the top six.
