First Prediction For Bolton Wanderers vs Birmingham City – Match Result – Draw – 9/4
In arguably the pick of the League One fixtures on Tuesday night, play-off chasing Bolton Wanderers host champions elect Birmingham City at the Toughsheet Community Stadium. The Trotters have been in great form since Steven Schumacher replaced Ian Evatt in January, losing just once in the league. They have moved to the fringes of the top six and sit just two points behind Charlton Athletic in the final play-off position. That is thanks in part to their home form, which has seen them record three successive wins, scoring nine times in the process. They also secured a 0-0 draw against promotion rivals Wrexham on Saturday to set up this tasty clash. Schumacher will be confident his team can get something out of the game, albeit against the best side in the division.
Birmingham keep on grinding out results and a 1-0 victory over second-placed Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend opened up a 12 point gap at the top of the table. The Blues also possess a game in hand and haven’t tasted defeat since losing to Shrewsbury Town in October. With their comfortable cushion, there is arguably more riding on this game for Bolton, meaning we could witness a stalemate in Greater Manchester.
Second Prediction For Bolton Wanderers vs Birmingham City – Both Teams To Score – 3/4
The Toughsheet Community Stadium has played host to some high-scoring games as of late. Bolton’s last five home games have seen both teams score, the most recent coming in a 2-1 victory over Leyton Orient. The last team to come away from the North West without scoring was Lincoln City, with the Trotters winning 3-0.
Birmingham have been formidable at both the front and back in recent weeks. They have kept clean sheets in each of their last five league outings, but suffered somewhat of a blow at the weekend when both goalkeeper Ryan Allsop and defender Ethan Laird picked up injuries. This will see Chris Davies be forced to shuffle his pack, which could play into Bolton’s hands.
Third Prediction For Bolton Wanderers vs Birmingham City – Bolton Wanderers – Over 0.5 Goals – 2/5
Although they failed to score against Wrexham on Saturday, Schumacher’s Bolton have been a different prospect in front of their own fans. Since Ian Evatt departed at the end of January, the Trotters are averaging three goals a game at home, having beaten Northampton Town 3-1, Crawley Town 4-3 and Leyton Orient 2-1.
It’s unusual to see a home team at 2/5 to score, although that will be down to Birmingham’s excellent defensive record. However, Bolton have only failed to score at the Toughsheet Community Stadium once in their last 14 league games, the last of which came when they lost 2-0 to Wigan Athletic in December. They’ll need to keep that run going to stand any chance of overcoming Chris Davies’ team.

Full Preview of the Game: Last Results and Head-To-Head
Steven Schumacher is certainly enjoying a ‘new manager bounce’ since he was appointed at the end of January. He suffered a 1-0 defeat away at Reading in his first game in charge before recovering to win three successive league games on the bounce. That trio of results generated a staggering 15 goals with 4-3, 3-2 and 2-1 victories over Crawley Town, Shrewsbury Town and Leyton Orient respectively. They picked up a respectable point away at Wrexham on Saturday, a result which saw them move up to seventh and just two points behind sixth-placed Charlton Athletic.
Birmingham’s 1-0 win over fellow promotion contenders Wycombe Wanderers at the weekend extended their League One unbeaten run to 18 games, whilst also opening up a 12 point gap at the top of the table. It’s worth noting that five of their last six league fixtures have been at St Andrew’s, with that solitary away game finishing 0-0 against Reading. In fact, Chris Davies’ team have drawn three of their last five on the road, also picking up a point against Wrexham and Stockport County.
This is a fixture which has plenty of history, with the pair meeting 133 times over the years. However, with Bolton having slipped down the leagues in recent years, this season’s reverse fixture was their first clash in five years. The Blues emerged victorious at St Andrew’s thanks to goals from Tomoki Iwata and Jay Stansfield in October. The two rarely produce a barrage of goals, with seven of the last nine meetings being settled by a solitary goal. Bolton’s last victory over Birmingham came in February 2019, whereas the last tie to be played out at the Toughsheet Community Stadium was also won by the Trotters in 2018.
