John Eustace Makes Derby County Free Agent Admission

Derby County are considering free agent additions to their squad following the confirmation that midfielder David Ozoh will miss the remainder of the season due to a thigh injury.

The 19-year-old, on loan from Crystal Palace, suffered the setback in the recent defeat to Millwall and will now be sidelined for the rest of the campaign.

Eustace Open to New Arrivals

With Ozoh’s absence leaving a gap in midfield, manager John Eustace has not ruled out dipping into the free agent market to bolster his squad. The Rams recently secured striker Kemar Roofe on a short-term deal, and further reinforcements could now follow.

“We are looking at a few players to come in and train, but there is nobody else signed at the moment,” Eustace said when asked about the possibility of another addition.

Derby have previously found success in the free agent market, with last season’s arrival of Dwight Gayle proving effective before injury cut short his campaign. The club will now assess their options carefully as they navigate a crucial period in their battle to avoid relegation.

Blow for Derby’s Midfield

Ozoh had made an immediate impression at Pride Park, offering energy and physicality in the middle of the park. His injury comes at a critical time for the Rams, who could be without as many as seven players for their upcoming clash with Middlesbrough.

Eustace was full of praise for the young midfielder and emphasised his importance to the dressing room.

“He is a fantastic player, and in my short period working with him, you can see he has great quality,” said Eustace. “He is going to be a miss, but he is going to stay around the group. He’s a gentleman and a lovely lad. He will be great around the rest of the players.”

What’s Next for the Rams?

With key players sidelined, Derby must rely on their existing squad depth while potentially adding reinforcements. The Rams remain in a fight for survival, and with tough fixtures ahead, Eustace will need his squad to step up in Ozoh’s absence.

Derby face Middlesbrough next, with the pressure mounting to turn their fortunes around and avoid being dragged deeper into the relegation battle.

Writer’s View

Ozoh’s injury is a significant setback for Derby, particularly given the club’s struggles this season. While the midfielder had only been at Pride Park for a short time, his presence in the squad was important. Eustace’s openness to bringing in reinforcements suggests Derby may look to act quickly in the free agent market.

However, with time running out in the season, the Rams need their remaining players to step up if they are to secure their Championship status.
