Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has revealed that defender Dominic Iorfa will ‘hopefully’ be fit for selection around the next international break in March.
The 29-year-old has been sidelined with injury in recent weeks, leaving the Owls short on defensive options as they continue their push for a play-off spot in the Championship.
Iorfa Closing in on Return
So far this season, Iorfa has featured 17 times in all competitions—16 of those in the league—chipping in with one goal. His contract at Hillsborough runs until the summer of 2026.
Providing an update on his recovery, Rohl told The Star:
“We are on a schedule. The only thing with Dom is that we first said we would give him two extra weeks because it was a second injury in a short time. Normally with this injury you can carry on earlier but it was a decision from our side to give him a little bit more time.
“The good thing is that he trained now this week and it is now about next week, making sure he can go again. We will train with him on a bigger pitch, where he comes through the acceleration and the longer sprints. It is good to see him and in the short term hopefully by the international break we will have one more option.”

Key Player Set to Bolster Defence
Sheffield Wednesday will take a cautious approach with Iorfa’s recovery, ensuring he is fully fit before reintroducing him to the squad. His return will provide much-needed competition in defence as the Owls continue their play-off push.
The former England youth international has been a key figure since his arrival at Hillsborough in 2019, making 182 appearances and scoring six goals. He played a crucial role in the club’s League One play-off final victory in 2023 under former boss Darren Moore, helping Wednesday secure promotion at Wembley.
Before joining Wednesday, Iorfa progressed through Wolverhampton Wanderers’ academy, making 93 senior appearances. Loan spells at Shrewsbury Town and Ipswich Town provided him with valuable experience before his permanent move to South Yorkshire.
Writer’s View
Iorfa’s return will be a major boost for Sheffield Wednesday, but Rohl is right to be cautious. A second injury in quick succession suggests that rushing him back too soon could risk another setback. Defensively, Wednesday have struggled in his absence, and his presence will provide stability in the backline.
However, given the club’s recent form, his return alone won’t fix everything—Wednesday will need to regain momentum quickly if they are serious about mounting a play-off challenge.
