Charlton Athletic Strike Deal With 35-Year-Old

Charlton Athletic have confirmed that striker Danny Hylton has signed a new contract as they continue their push for a top-six finish in League One.

Hylton, who originally joined Charlton in September 2024 as a player-coach, has now extended his stay at The Valley. The club announced the contract extension on their official website, confirming that the experienced forward will continue in his dual role.

Charlton Boss Praises Hylton’s Influence

Charlton manager Nathan Jones spoke highly of the 35-year-old’s impact on the squad, particularly in mentoring younger players coming through the academy.

“Danny has had a really positive impact on the environment here and has also played an important role in supporting the development of our young strikers. He’s at the start of his coaching career and already his experience has been invaluable, so I’m pleased he’s signed a new contract with us.”

Hylton himself emphasised his enjoyment of the role, particularly his work with Charlton’s promising young forwards.

“There’s some unbelievable young talent here throughout the squad. The work that they do within the academy is amazing because there’s some top, top youngsters, especially in the forward areas as well. My role is not to tell them what to do or how to play because they are their own person and player with their own styles, but it’s just about giving them little pointers and using my experiences and what I’ve been through to help them.

I really enjoy doing it and they are amazing people as well. They want to learn, they are hungry and they want to push through the leagues with Charlton and be successful with Charlton. I’m sure that they are going to go on and have wonderful careers.”

Hylton’s Role in Charlton’s Promotion Ambitions

While Hylton’s primary focus has been on mentoring young talent, he has also played an important role on the pitch this season. The veteran forward has made eight league appearances, contributing one goal and one assist. His performances have earned an average Sofascore rating of 6.83.

The extension of his contract not only benefits Charlton but also provides Hylton with valuable experience as he transitions into coaching. His role allows him to gain hands-on experience while still contributing as a player, a move that could prove beneficial for both parties.

Writer’s View

Hylton’s contract extension is a smart move by Charlton. His wealth of experience is proving invaluable both on and off the pitch, particularly in nurturing the next generation of Addicks talent. As Charlton pushes for promotion, having a leader like Hylton involved in both playing and coaching capacities could give them a crucial edge in the final stretch of the season.
