Huddersfield Town Boss Hoping For Immediate Reaction

Huddersfield Town manager Michael Duff is hoping to see an immediate reaction from his side against Wigan Athletic following their defeat against Peterborough United on Saturday.

The Terriers welcomed Darren Ferguson’s side to the John Smith’s Stadium at the weekend having recently recovered from a run of poor form. They brought to an end a run of just one win from seven games since the turn of the year when they beat Barnsley earlier this month and followed that with another three points at Shrewsbury Town.

Both of those victories came on the road and it was expected that they would continue their revival against a struggling Peterborough side in front of their own supporters. However, they suffered a shock when a solitary Hector Kyprianou goal saw Posh secure a much-needed win.

Duff Hoping For Return To Winning Ways

Huddersfield’s latest defeat means they missed the opportunity to move up to fourth in League One after Stockport County lost at Cambridge United. Ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Wigan, Duff is hoping that it is just a temporary blip and has called on his players to react accordingly. Via Yorkshire Livehe said:

“As always, as we’ve proven this year, if you’re not at it in this league, it doesn’t matter who you are (you’ll get beat). They’ve just gone to Wycombe, who are absolutely flying, and got a good 0-0 down there, so they’ll be trying to build off the back of that, we need to react off the back of a poor performance and result on Saturday, but we’ve just gone back-to-back as well.

“It’ll be a difficult game (against Wigan), as the next one will be and the next one, but we’re into the run-in now, so we need to start finding three points more often.”

Writer’s View

The race of the play-offs in League One is starting to heat up, with those competing for a place starting to slip up more often. We’ve seen the likes of Wrexham, Stockport and Leyton Orient also drop points in recent weeks, but it is up to Huddersfield to start producing the goods on a consistent basis. They have shown what they are capable of during the earlier stages of the season, notably their 16-game unbeaten run between October and January. To ensure they are in with a shot of promotion in May, that is the kind of form they will need to replicate in the coming weeks.
